Historia
A Secret Service operative and dedicated survivalist, Special Agent Del Roosevelt had a plan for every world-ending scenario and regularly trained for them all. He was even ready for a date with the hottest woman in his office next Friday. At least he hoped so. But all that training, all those rations, all that prepping? Useless for the apocalypse that actually played out. Del wakes up half-buried in a giant trash pile, missing his thumbs. And, um, covered in red fur. He's stuck in a world of fuzzy monsters, senseless violence, and cult-like crusaders.

The only Eric Ugland book I haven't liked
Revisado: 03-16-25
Eric Ugland is one of my favorite authors. I love his wit and imagination. This book is his most imaginative but not very funny. The best way I can describe it would be to imagine if he took acid and had a bad trip right after watching the Muppet show and wrote his book while he was coming down. I'm going to return it for my credit.

Historia
July 1346. Ten men land on the beaches of Normandy. They call themselves the Essex Dogs: an unruly platoon of archers and men-at-arms led by a battle-scarred captain whose best days are behind him. The fight for the throne of the largest kingdom in Western Europe has begun. Heading ever deeper into enemy territory toward Crécy, this band of brothers knows they are off to fight a battle that will forge nations, and shape the very fabric of human lives. But first they must survive a bloody war in which rules are abandoned and chivalry itself is slaughtered.

Not as good as I hoped.
Revisado: 03-12-23
Rather meh. While other reviewers praised the action scenes, I found them non-compelling. I like historical fiction and its clear Mr. Jones understands that medieval chroniclers wrote as much propaganda as history, but I found his alterations of history such as making the landing of the English being contested at the beach like a WW II amphibious assault detracted from my ability to suspend disbelief. His imagining of the lives of the common mercenaries / brigands was dull. On the whole, the depiction could be summarized by the Monty Python lines: "How do you know he's a king?" Answer: "He hasn't got shit all over him." The whole book is full of set-up for subsequent novels and resolves few of the situations it creates. I never vested interest in any of the point of view characters. On the whole I found the book slow and unsatisfying.

Little grains of sand can add up to a mountain over time. I used this philosophy of habit changes to run a marathon, to change my diet and lose weight, to write a novel, to quit smoking, to become organized and productive, to double my income, reduce my debt and start saving, and to begin training for an Olympic triathlon this year. It works, if you focus on changing habits. Listen to "Achieve your goals" and see the changes right away.

unintelligible
Revisado: 10-12-09
This was the second download I bought of Erick Brown's so I was a satisfied customer prior to this. The main problem was that Mr. Brown has added far too much reverb to his voice on this tape. A little reverb is relaxing, too much, as is used on this tape, make many of his words unintelligible. Instead of relaxing into a hypnotic trance, you puzzle over what he's saying. The other disappointment is that much of the tracks are identical to the tracks on the first tape I bought.

This gripping biography mixes intimate detail with a thorough understanding of the social, intellectual, artistic, and political climate of the time to unravel the intricate story of the misunderstood genius who wrote Kim, the Jungle Books, and the poem "If."

Fascinating but horrible narration editing
Revisado: 06-12-09
My enjoyment of this otherwise interesting book was seriously marred by the choppy and inexpert editing of the narration. At times phrases were inserted by another voice (or perhaps the same narrator's voice on a different day with different equipment sounding like another voice) and the insertions were done so sloppily sometimes entire words were missing from phrases making me uncertain whether only a word or a page was missing.
