Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Hours of Bono’s Poetry
Revisado: 01-25-25
Everything was wonderful, even though it wasn’t. By that I mean life, after all this is a biography, is typically hard and messy at best. Bono presents his biography as a wonderful poem. The tragedies and triumphs that make up his life touch the listener, and the listener, rather than the reader, feels the emotional impact of that life.

Historia
In A Kid from Marlboro Road, past and present intermingle as family stories are told and retold. The narrative careens between the prior generation’s colorful sojourns in the Bronx and Hell’s Kitchen and the softer world of Gibson, the town on Long Island where they live now. There are scenes in the Rockaways, at Belmont racetrack, and in Montauk. Edward Burns’s buoyant first novel is a bildungsroman, yet out of one boy’s story a collective warmth emerges, a certain kind of American tale, raucous and joyous.

It touched a lot of spaces . . .
Revisado: 09-25-24
. . . in that place between just being a kid and becoming really aware of the things that life is really about. Edward Burns put together a meaningful story, and was the perfect narrator for it.

Historia
Ice-T rose to fame in the late 1980s, earning acclaim for his music before going on to enthrall television audiences as Odafin “Fin” Tutuola in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. But it could have gone much differently. In this “poignant and powerful” (Library Journal, starred review) memoir, Ice-T and Spike, his former crime partner—collaborating with New York Times bestselling author Douglas Century—relate the shocking stories of their shared pasts, and how just a handful of decisions led to their incredibly different lives.

Very good look at how actions and choices make a difference, even random choices, alter the paths we are on.

A fantastic tale of love, and loss. Set in familiar geography, but in a different perspective. Things that happened then can, and do, happen today.

Historia
The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

Historia
In The Civil War: A Narrative, Vol. 3, Shelby Foote follows the events of the war from 1862 through 1864, discussing the strategies of both the North and the South and assessing the performance of the Union generals. The book opens with the beginning of the two final, major confrontations of the war: Grant against Lee in Virginia and Sherman pressing Johnston in North Georgia. In vivid narrative as seen from both sides, he tells of the climactic struggles, great and small, on and off the field of battle, that finally decided the fate of this nation.

The Civil War
Revisado: 01-12-23
I’ve read the series at least twice. I found this to be a fantastic narrative, the telling of an overwhelming era in American history. Well worth the time spent listening to how the Civil War changed the nation.
The story teller, Foote, and narrator Grover Gardner are both fantastic.

Revisado: 08-30-22
A fantastic listen. The material, and style of presentation equally so.
A minor nit though, the chapters weren’t really chapters, but perhaps, a timing thing. But this is really insignificant compared to the effort of the author and the reader.

The narrator was excellent. The stories were very entertaining, though Doyle’s formula became very clear after several “cases.”

Historia
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

A wildly descriptive, and emotional, story of Springsteen’s life. I could actually feel his joys, pains, humility, love and much more. His ability to speak his life story was worth every second of my listening.

Having seen the excellent Tom Hanks movie several times, my belief that the book is better than the movie holds true. This is a compelling story.
