Historia
In the distant past, a time of magic and swordplay, there lived Harold, the mightiest lich of all, a master of arcane sciences, and a challenger of gods. After reaching the pinnacle of his power and finding it surprisingly bland, Harold waged a cataclysmic war against the gods, aiming to shatter the very system that confined him.

The narration was fantastic! I had a pun-tastic time listening to the story. Be sure to listen to all of the end credits for an Easter egg. Enjoy!

The castle lay in ruins around them, its repair a daunting task for even the most industrious little vacuum. Fortunately, cleaning is Spot's specialty. Just as enthralling as the first book...
Revisado: 05-04-24
To those who read my review of the first volume, this is nearly a copy and paste. I did this intentionally since the second volume was just as awesome as the first.
Audible had recommended the first volume to me less than a week ago. I listened to the sample and figured I'd give this a chance.
Before I knew it, I was so enthralled that I had bypassed listening to anything else. This story was written so well, that if you told me that this series took a few years of writing and editing, I would be able to easily believe it.
I recommend the series to everyone who enjoys books about swords and sorcery with comedy mixed in throughout.
(Actual copy and paste. I believe readers/listeners should read this to offset the reviews that are unfairly bashing the author and narrator.)
One fact I must impart upon all those who read this, do not imagine the characters are from modern society. Instead, the characters are more like people from the darkest point in our dark ages. Lives were short and fragile, people were superstitious, almost all were illiterate, and critical thinking was at an all time low.
I have read reviews complaining about how stupid the author was for leaving such huge 'holes' in the writing. They continued with stating facts that are common in today's society, but they had also neglected to include the fact that the story did not, in fact, take place in our world nor with our technology.
There were also a few who were complaining that the one narrator was performing all the voices of the people. If it was Michael Winslow, we might be able to have someone performing about a dozen voices and be able to tell the difference. However, the character count in book 2 exceeds two dozen, if not approaches three dozen. There were also several people complaining that the story didn't indicate long periods of time passed. And, yet, the Harry Potter books did the same thing and their reviews were borderline fanatical about that particular series without once complaining about the same concept. Consistency is apparently not their strong suit.
I know this review doesn't really have any spoilers, which was intentional. I feel this book needs no spoilers beyond the sample. I hope the readers give this series an honest chance. So, I recommend buying this book and sitting back with either a mindless task or just sit in the dark and give this a listen. Let your mind's eye take you to a world of mystery and entertainment.

Audible had recommended this book to me less than a week ago. I listened to the sample and figured I'd give this a chance.
Before I knew it, I was so enthralled that I had bypassed listening to anything else for three days straight. (Book 2 closely followed with another three days of nearly straight listening.) This book was composed with such effort that it has had me talking about it constantly to other people.
So, now I'm recommending the book/series to everyone who enjoys books about swords and sorcery with comedy mixed in throughout.

Historia
"I'm actually a smart girl who would make any man an excellent wife. But no man sees that. No man is interested in my mind or personality, just my whatevers. So here is my wish: I'm board stiff. I want Adventure, Excitement, and Romance." So begins Piers Anthony's 38th Xanth novel, in which Irrelevant Candy looks at her reflection in the water of the shallow well and sees luxuriant midnight-black hair reaching down to her breathtakingly slender waist, matching the dark eyes in her lovely face.

Xanth Rules at play
Revisado: 02-22-24
I really enjoyed this novel. Legendary Piers Anthony has had another success. The story may lead you over a crazed magical land full of puns and fantastical creatures, but there is one grueling downside.
The narrator is nearly monotone. It's like it was performed by a failed AI that used a recording of the common lines, or Mister Data's (He's no longer in Starfleet, after all) recent ancestors. His voice killed the story like my little interruption there killed the flow.
It has taken me a very long time to get through this book because it's worse than when Ben Stein tries to be monotone.
Otherwise, if you can deal with nearly monotone, then this story will have you laughing yourself silly. I'd still suggest the sample will make it a little more clear. But it is still a chosen location in the book.

Historia
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Andy Weir did it again...
Revisado: 06-01-21
This was another awesome book. Andy used his knowledge to write another amazing book. I had enjoyed this book so much that I had listened to it even while I was at work, which I wasn't supposed to but I had to keep listening.
The only thing that I didn't like was that my real life kept interrupting it.
The narrator also did a fantastic job bringing this book to life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys comedy and science. I want to find the printed version and read it, too.

Ian is...just my best friend. We're extremely close, stuck so deep inside a Jim-and-Pam-style friendzone everyone at work assumes we're a couple - that is until one day, word spreads through the teacher's lounge that he's single. Fair game. Suddenly, it's open season on Ian. He should be reveling in all the newfound attention, but to our mutual surprise, the only attention he seems to want is mine. He's turning our formerly innocent nightly chats into X-rated phone calls. Our playful banter sports a new, dangerous edge.

Revisado: 05-09-21
I really enjoyed this book. I first heard Luci Christian as an anime vice actress. Hearing her as an Audible narrator makes me smile. And this book is a perfect example of how good she is at this stuff. She's made listening to this book an awesome experience.
Teddy Hamilton also did a great job.
R.S. Grey wrote a book that was just right. Not too much but also not too little.

Excellent!!!
Revisado: 04-22-13
What did you love best about The Magician's Guild?
This book started out kind of slow but when it picked up, it took me on a whirl wind and hooked me. As soon as I realized the book was nearly over, I had immediately purchased the next two so I could continue the series without delay.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Sonea, because she was the proverbial underdog. She went from rags to riches and learned that she has an important role to play to protect the ones she cared for.
What does Richard Aspel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
An accent that brought the feeling of old-time and even other-landly feel.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
This I would be unable to answer without enough time to think. It would have to be something thorough and befitting such an experience.
Any additional comments?
This was beautifully written and narrated. I have already recommended this book to a close friend of mine. He doesn't read science fiction but is interested from my suggestion since I mainly stick to science and educational material.
