Historia
Former FBI agent Karen Pantelli lives by a simple philosophy: never, ever care. Three years after a tragic mistake ends her once-stellar career, she drifts from one dead-end job to another, quickly moving on when she finds herself getting too attached. A new city. A new life. A new way of forgetting and being forgotten. Until one chilly night behind a seedy bar, when a frightened girl leaps out of the back of a speeding van.

Better than expected.
Revisado: 11-13-21
An engaging, suspenseful story with many twists that kept me guessing. As a bonus, I requested and received a no-strings-attached copy for review and found the story much better than I guessed (based on the blurb). There are parallels to events that made the news in recent years, which added unexpected weight to the story.
I found the main character likable and easy to root for, along with the victim she helped. While the ending resolved the story (no cliffhangers for the next in series) and was ultimately satisfying, it was bittersweet. I pondered the story and its conclusion for days after finishing.
I appreciated a solid narration performance. It was competent and not overdone, allowing me to immerse in the story.
I highly recommend.

More Steampunk fun and a satisfying conclusion.
Revisado: 10-03-21
Books 4 – 6 are an enjoyable, satisfying, and fun conclusion to the Great Iron War saga. Character development continues to flourish and yet there are turns and disappointments. I enjoyed the mystic elements that worked its way into the story. Clever metaphors are in abundance. Porridge returns with R.C. Bray delivering laugh-out-loud moments. In fact, R.C. Bray does an absolutely outstanding job giving voice to all the characters. This is a great story, and the audiobook version is a joy and pleasure to listen to.
Though some aspects of the conclusion are bittersweet, this series leaves us with a feel-good sense about characters that I’ll remember long after the details of the battles are forgotten.
I was provided a complementary copy of the audiobook by the author, no strings attached. I am happy to provide this review as a way of saying thank you for the journey and the enjoyment the author gave me.

Lots of fun with great action and clever writing.
Revisado: 06-28-21
My first venture into the steampunk genre, and what a pleasant surprise. I requested, and was provided a no strings attached, complementary copy of this audiobook by the author.
All three books are great. R.C. Bray's performance is an absolute treat. The characters are well-developed and come to life with Bray's interpretation. Some of the characterizations are so well done (especially the pirate) that I laughed out loud at the antics. I'm smiling right now as I recollect one scene in particular, as only R.C. Bray could bring to life.
All three stories hold together and move forward at an enjoyable pace. I particularly enjoyed the plethora of metaphors, some very colorful--all original. That's not to say there are no plot holes, but they are minor and don't distract from the entertaining story.
Although there are scenes of death and destruction (some not for the faint of heart), the story has a positive undertone, with characters that work through issues for a common cause. The characters are all flawed but likable, making it easy to root for them.
Well worth the listen.

Cute MG story
Revisado: 06-07-21
A middle grade fantasy with multiple dimensions and and a cast of characters including cats and birds that have powers and the ability to communicate with a special few. Clean fun for a younger audience, especially those who enjoy the inner science geek within them.
A large cast of characters including young, old, animals, and multiple regional accents is competently brought to life by the narrator. An enjoyable listen.

Engaging and enjoyable
Revisado: 05-29-21
The story is light-hearted and engaging. The story develops at a good pace and holds interest. I would have enjoyed more development in the relationship as they fell for each other a bit too quickly.
Story 4.5 stars vs. 5: As all good stories have a point of conflict, the cause for the main conflict in this story didn't quite work IMHO. Without giving away more, it didn't help the female protagonist and didn't make sense for the time she came from. The negative character flaw of the male protagonist was handled much better--made sense for the time... and it offered a redeeming moment for the female protagonist.
The narration was great, though not perfect. I particularly liked the vocal characterizations and could visualize the characters easily. The accents were performed quite well. The only nitpick--and it's a small one, the narration enunciation felt a bit slow at times. I would definitely enjoy listening to this narrator again.
I received a complementary copy of this book from the narrator and was asked for an honest review.
