Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Multi-listen + Dire Wolves!
Revisado: 04-12-25
I'd already listened to both Outland and Earthside a couple times, but all the recent talk about dire wolves made me go back for another round. It is still a great listen!

Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Action/detective + science fiction
Revisado: 01-12-24
I like both action/crime/detective style novels and lightweight Sci-Fi. I read this for the science fiction and got both! The story increases in momentum as you go.
On the performance: I could listen to John Scalzi and Will Wheaton tell me stories all day long. Having one of my other favorite narrators, Luke Daniels, perform in the bonus novella included with this book was *chef's kiss* delightful.

Binge listening
Revisado: 11-12-22
I've bought each next book in the series immediately upon finishing the one before - it is that good! Each book has a completely unique plot with a growing set of rich characters. Kristin Atherton as narrator is amazing. when done with these I'll seek other books she has narrated.

I'm out of credits but intend to pay for the next book & also buy a printed copy because I'm curious about spellings of the names. Story was truly original and the narrator was perfect for it.

More stories than you expect
Revisado: 09-18-22
Geoffrey Beman does a very nice job narrating his own book which is not always a given. he speaks clearly and at a pleasant conversational pace.
The stories from the book that are the focus of media interviews are there, but there were many more that added more learning about SDNY and the work of US Attorneys. This is all delivered in an easy story telling fashion.

I've been binge listening to this series!
Revisado: 08-27-21
It was effective to have the first couple books included in my membership.by the time I got to the paid books I happily bought extra credits to get the rest & it has been worth it.
The books would be a very good road trip listen for a family with younger kids (say 8 years old+) but as an adult I've enjoyed it as an engaging listen and escape from all the bad news amid current events.

Revisado: 12-26-20
I have not listened to any of the series, so when deciding to start I did so with this book which is the prequel. It was a wonderful book and listen (great narrator!) on its own, but I now look forward to starting the next book.

Please listen to this, and read it too.
Revisado: 09-20-20
I did not realize before I started the book that I know these characters!! I have faint memories of having been told stories of some of these mythical creatures and gods, mostly through songs, as a child. Kwame Mbalia respectfully and vividly brings them alive with far more depth than I had ever learned in school.
The narration is fantastic. I bought the print book and read it after listening because I wanted to see the written names and places. I could still "hear" Amir Abdullah's voice as I read.

I would have loved everything about this book anyway (the story, the performance) but it was especially good after being on quarantine. This was like getting a super hero sized trip back to quirky office dynamics that I miss.
