Accurate complaining, devoid of solution

I found myself agreeing with the diagnosis of many of the societal ills Isker lists. He also speaks my language: a weird, subversive Internet lingo that doesn't bring about many Likes on Facebook. But besides the concrete examples found in the title and the epilogue, Isker doesn't really offer any practical solutions. "Keep the faith." Yeah, but how? "Next chapter." Oh... I found this disappointing.

Excellent narration, Fair evaluation of history

I didn't like how easy it was to get lost during a lecture, though I attribute that to how huge the scope is. Another Great Courses series was about one individual, which kept it focused and easier to follow.
That's my only criticism. Presenter was very knowledgeable, kept analysis fair and measured, and added much to my understanding of the Persian Empire throughout its total history.

Interesting, neutral content about Charlemagne

I found the material very neutrally presented, and the topics pertinent. I'm now interested in exploring more about Charlemagne's life in particular matters, and I am glad this book didn't get more in detail about things. Breaking lessons up into half hour chunks was perfect.

Daileader has a compelling narrator voice, but some mannerisms he can't help and they do sometimes distract from what he's saying. I didn't count that against my score here, I really believe 4/5 stars is what his performance deserves. In practical terms, his voice never caused me to turn off the audiobook.

Thoughtful advice for insecure personalities

Most of the advice here is timely and applicable. Chapter 7 felt preachy, with a good message however, it's just a striking departure from the rest of the book.

JD Ledford narrates magnificently. Incredible performance! And whoever edited the audio really knows what they're about!

This was hard to follow when binging. The chapters are bite sized and better for digesting and writing action plans about later.

Wilson's voice does not lend itself well here. His YouTube commentary voice sounds much more natural and easier to listen to by comparison.

Thrillingly told

It took me a few chapters to get into it. After the first couple battles, I was hooked. Pressfield writes in a way that is epic in description. Absolutely fascinating "in his shoes" breakdown of a legend from the classical era.

John Lee performed this impeccably. I was put off at first. By halfway, I'm convinced the man was born for this exact role. He conveys all of Alexander's overconfidence, surety, self-reflection, obsession, and wisdom. It was easy to imagine Lee's voice as Alexander's himself. Incredibly done!

Dave answers critics and tackles different topics

I've heard plenty of Dave over the years. Besides certain rehashing of main points, this book genuinely felt packed with new, unheard stories, info, and opinions. I did not expect an entire chapter on billionaires but found it enjoyable.

Dave talks so much for a living, he's a natural when it comes to narration.

Wilson has many pithy words of wisdom for men in this book and we would do well to heed them.

Donaldson's narration was adequate, but not great.

Couldn't turn it off, so good

This book encompasses much more than mere farming. The idea that it's harder to buy eggs from the farmer you drive past down the road to work everyday, than to buy soda from a big box store, should flag everyone's attention. This book mostly preached to the choir (me) but now I'm zealous over it.

Salatin should for sure be the one narrating his own books. I do think he needs improvement however. His voice sometimes drifts into high pitches it doesn't belong. That said, it is perfectly acceptable given how much character and extra flavor his narration does bring.

Incredible narration

As far as content is concerned, this is classic C.S. Lewis novel writing. Very clever to see things from the evil point of view.

Joss Ackland performs Screwtape immaculately. He brings an incredible talent to the character that should not be overlooked. Absolutely recommended on that merit alone.
