Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

Extremely long
Revisado: 05-11-25
Extremely long, honestly only finished the book bc I had time to kill, but the first 15 hrs is a bit exhausting. That side once u get to the last half it does actually get interesting and the ending is excellent.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Cringe until the end
Revisado: 03-08-25
The first half to two thirds of this was so cliché and cringe, I almost stopped listening. The end was enough to somewhat make up for it. All in all not terrible but certainly not top 100, and not one I would recommend as a must read.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Happy tears
Revisado: 03-26-24
Started off a little slow, took a min to piece together the characters and how they all worked together but comes together beautifully at the end. Funny and sweet, easy read.

In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage and themselves.

Wanting more
Revisado: 11-02-23
Thoroughly enjoyed this story. The only thing, the ending left me wanting more. I was hoping the son would make an appearance, get his perspective, but all the same still excellent.

Historia
“How we interact with animals has preoccupied philosophers, poets, and naturalists for ages,” writes Susan Orlean. Since the age of six, when Orlean wrote and illustrated a book called Herbert the Near-Sighted Pigeon, she’s been drawn to stories about how we live with animals, and how they abide by us. Now, in On Animals, she examines animal-human relationships through the compelling tales she has written over the course of her celebrated career.

No point
Revisado: 04-13-23
Well, the stories are interesting. They frequently have no reason for their beginning, no solid ending, and they certainly do not tie together in any way shape or form. Her “stories “simply begin and ending. if you’re someone who reads for a story, pass this one up. Disappointing, lack of plot or purpose.

Satisfying ending
Revisado: 10-24-21
Love the main character and the flash backs that keep u on your toes. Some what of an unbelievable plot (one woman who repeatedly, unknown to her is involved with three men whom use abuse and kill women -seems far fetched), but still a good read that kept me on my toes and engaged.

Historia
Imperial Intelligence couldn't find them, the Imperial Fleet couldn't catch them, and local defenses couldn't stop them. It seemed the planet-wrecking pirates were invincible. But they made a big mistake when they raided ex-commando leader Alicia DeVries' quiet home/work, tortured and murdered her family, and then left her for dead. Alicia decided to turn "pirate" herself, and stole a cutting-edge AI ship from the empire to start her vendetta. Her fellow veterans think she's gone crazy, the Imperial Fleet has shoot-on-sight orders. And, of course, the pirates want her dead, too.

Shockingly Good
Revisado: 07-18-21
This was my first read/listen from this author. I was skeptical as I typically don’t enjoy books written by male authors and esp when they try for a lead female voice, and esp when there is war/action involved. But this one was heart! Better then I ever expected. Long but so worth it. While the author does make his lead character a classic cliché (example think woman who can eat anything she wants; tall frame thin waiste etc etc) but for the most part doesn’t over ply it too hard. Keeps it tolerable similar to other female authors so i feel I can’t hold this against the author.
Also the readers performance was perfect spot on.
