Listening to this book may have been one of the most emotionally challenging and cherished experiences of my life. Bravo Jen Lyon and Abby Craden. It took me a few weeks to feel all my feels before getting back to this review…this book made me love and appreciate love - in all its forms (family, passions, partners etc)- more deeply.

I wanted to love this book, and I really want to give this narrator a chance - but the storyline became monotonous and the narrator’s voice was just too grating.

Didn’t finish. Better luck next time.

A surprising new favorite!

I wasn’t familiar with this author and I’m so glad I discovered this book. One of the most heartwarming stories that seemed expertly researched and had me dropping my whole day just to enjoy listening. I’m a fairly picky listener (so many fluffy lesbian romance reviews that ignore poor writing or flimsy storylines) and this book was great from start to finish.

A pleasant surprise!

Honestly wasn’t expecting much from this book and tropes that typically elicit a lot of eye rolls from my end…but damn if I wasn’t riveted through every minute of Alex and Catharine’s love story. I usually prefer something steamier, but the writing and characters kept my rapt attention and I really really enjoyed this debut from Lyon. And, as always, Craden was perfect in every way.

Even better than the first book.

I don’t know how Lyon and Craden pulled it off, but I found myself enjoying this book even more than the first in the series. Normally one for something a bit spicier, the characters and story are so well written and performed that I am 100% bought in.

Also, for those who enjoy the Ask, Tell series…I think there is finally some competition IMO of the best wlw romance series out there. Bravo Lyon 👏

Delightful story! Great narration.

Tasteful age-gap storyline. Loved the leaning toward ice queen dynamic and perfect mix of steamy and storytelling. Narration was fantastic, had a few lines in which I wasn’t positive who was supposed to be speaking, but didn’t detract from how much I enjoyed this audiobook.

Not my favorite

Normally Love McKay’s writing - but this entire book was frustratingly angsty and not at all like her other (downright amazing) books. Purchased because of high ratings, and honestly feel duped. I wanted to like this story, I struggled through hours of listening hoping the ceaseless coveting of a married woman would get less…irritating.

However, I quite enjoyed Craden’s take on a few fun accents.

I rarely feel compelled to leave a poor review, but as someone who purchases primarily based on reviews, I think listeners should know what they are getting into. Go get all of McKays other books (or be prepared for something quite different with this one), she deserves to be supported. I look forward to her next novel…for me, better luck next time.
