this is a total "time machine" knock off or an updated telling of the same. it wasn't bad, but I'm not all that compelled to spend a monthly credit on the next adventure.

but I was a pretty immature 6th grader. There is an interesting story here. It's science fiction so the fact that the premise is beyond absurd can be given a pass. The character development is non-existent beyond the first few chapters of the first book. it's like the author wrote a hard science fiction story, realized that it was too logically inconsistent and went back for a Hitchhikers Guide vibe.
I'm sitting here with less than 5 hours left in the story struggling to finish it. I'm not sure logical consistency is my issue with this story as much as internal cohesion. There is a ton of exposition going on about why something won't work because "time travel", but a few chapters later they're going on about why this other thing that is totally not exactly the same concept might work because "time travel".
this is almost enough to make me return to the series about a beer can flying around space with a bunch of monkeys. that stuff is comedy gold compared to this.

I really enjoyed the novelty of this initial book, but IT DOES NOT IMPROVE. This story is repeated over and over through at least book 7 (where I'm stopping).
the Author just does the same tropes over and over. Think you're going they're going to expand on "the elders"? nope, they're just in the story as somewhere between a Deus Ex Machina (the literary troupe) and just a lazy macguffin. this series just devolves into lazy derivative garbage.

I keep buying books but the story stays the same.

This series starts out with so much promise but fails to deliver. Each iteration in this series is a template of the first. "oh this thing we have to do is impossible"... no it's not we just have to do this thing you didn't think of... oh you're right. over and over and over. 7 books in and nothing of consequence has happened.
all that being said, I was into the mindless repetition until it somehow got even more repetitive in the current iteration (I use iteration because you can't hardly call these entries unique stories). This series has basically devolved into fan fiction. Good on the author for turning a heap of turds into a pile of cash.

I particularly liked the very brief explanation the author provides on each story. it's not like some others (cough cough Mr. Card) who go on and on about trite details rather than the straight forward "this is the context of that story"

I'm a bit surprised there wasn't a witch, but I'm sure they were building up to it. all that said the deal killer is there is simply no story arch. the author appears to be going for a never ending episodic 'thriller'. it is cliche on all levels. This series brings nothing new or interesting to the genre. On the other hand, if all you want is Man Save World with a side of Oh and something something Tough Girls Too... this series has it in spades.
