Historia
Paul Falkowski looks "under the hood" of microbes to find the engines of life, the actual working parts that do the biochemical heavy lifting for every living organism on Earth. With insight and humor, he explains how these miniature engines are built - and how they have been appropriated by and assembled like Lego sets within every creature that walks, swims, or flies. Falkowski shows how evolution works to maintain this core machinery of life, and how we and other animals are veritable conglomerations of microbes.

enter a world you never really knew existed
Revisado: 01-04-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would because its interesting to see how our garbage can become someone's livelihood and how social ideas on what is appropriate use of objects can change the world
What was one of the most memorable moments of Junkyard Planet?
when the Chinese junk merchant was being charming to try and buy the junk to send to China to be sorted and reprocessed
What aspect of Stephen McLaughlin’s performance would you have changed?
none I liked it just as it was
Could you see Junkyard Planet being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
it would be an interesting documentary
Any additional comments?
I don't like the new review setup where you make answering the questions mandatory I would prefer ot write my own review and then perhaps be quried

Amy Stewart, best-selling author of Flower Confidential, takes on over two hundred of Mother Nature's most appalling creations in an A to Z of plants that kill, maim, intoxicate, and otherwise offend.

great information but
Revisado: 09-16-11
it is just to hard without pictures this is one book that would have really benefited from a pdf readalong file. It also got a bit discounterting to hear over and over "meet the realitives"
still well worth the listen and great information. It could save your life to know not to cook marshmellows on a daphne stick! I think that alone makes it worth getting.

Historia
More than 200 million years ago, geological forces split apart the continents. Isolated from each other, the two halves of the world developed radically different suites of plants and animals. When Christopher Columbus set foot in the Americas, he ended that separation at a stroke. Driven by the economic goal of establishing trade with China, he accidentally set off an ecological convulsion as European vessels carried thousands of species to new homes across the oceans.

Jamestown like you never thought of it before, a sweeping look at how plants, animals and people change the world and make history. If school taught history as well as this book does i would have loved the class instead of dreading it.

fabulous book amazing man
Revisado: 11-13-09
had we heeded Cousteau 30 years ago we wouldnt be in the predicament we are in now. This book chronicals his expoilts and gives us a clear view of the truth of our actions on our environment. I always wondered why the death of this amazing man was hardly covered on the news. Now i know, he spoke the truth and it was inconvenient.

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Revisado: 01-22-08
the author fast reads through this like its a chore and he wants to get it out of the way as quickly as possible. I was so turned off by his delivery that i found it impossible to finish the book. Too bad, because it had some interesting points. My tip to author, next time either take the time to make the reading worthwhile or let somebody else make some money doing a better job.
