Historia
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Different
Revisado: 12-29-23
I enjoyed the humor, appreciated the limited sex scenes in favor of romance, and loved the location. Bayous are so mysterious anyway

Historia
Two hotheaded Highlanders, the offspring of feuding lairds, are tricked by the King's Regent into a desperate choice: marry or die. Bhaic MacPherson is more disposed to lead his clan into battle than stay married to the daughter of his enemy. But perhaps the intensity of his feelings has more to do with desire than hostility. Ailis Robertson wanted a husband, not a savage - but when her family was faced with a deadly ultimatum, she had no choice.

Horrible narration
Revisado: 02-08-23
So Theatrical, no passion. Sorry was a good one too, so that’s a bummer. Accent was dreadful saying YE with emphasis and wrong. Scots pronounce it differently

New Summary needed
Revisado: 04-01-22
I would recommend this book. It’s the summary that threw me. It’s not about the 2 sisters. It’s about each sister and their lives. Then it’s about another family member. Finally the last family member. It’s basically 3 books that cannot be read separately. If the summary had been honest about what to expect, I would have liked it a lot more.

Historia
It was Emily Carr (1871-1945), not Georgia O'Keeffe or Frida Kahlo, who first blazed a path for modern women artists. Overcoming the confines of late Victorian culture, Carr became a major force in modern art. Her boldly original landscapes are praised today for capturing an untamed British Columbia, and its indigenous peoples, just before industrialization would change it forever. In this novel, Susan Vreeland brings to life this fiercely independent and underappreciated figure.

Good not great
Revisado: 11-19-21
Wasn’t as bad as the other reviews posted, but maybe they prepared me. You have to remember this was in the early 1900’s. Her work wasn’t as bad as the first museum said. They made it seem like the poles were eccentric. I’ve actually seen her work on the poles, and I think they were good.(not an artist though). I think Emily showed growth in herself and her work through this book. The narrator was off a little with the French accent, but no one’s perfect

Historia
In The Book Whisperer, Miller takes us inside her sixth grade classroom to reveal the secrets of her powerful but unusual instructional approach. Rejecting book reports, comprehension worksheets, and other aspects of conventional instruction, Miller embraces giving students an individual choice in what they read, combined with a program for independent reading. She also focuses on building a classroom library of high-interest books, and above all on modeling appropriate and authentic reading behaviors.

Student book reading
Revisado: 05-27-20
Yes! The narrator has a silky smooth voice that is worth listening to. The book itself is inspiring. So many teachers don’t read and therefore don’t encourage reading. This is not a how-to book, which is awesome. It combines the first years of failures with experiences, ideas, and encouragement to start students on the right path to read...anything. Giving choices, book discussions, recommendations from the teacher AND students.
