Historia
When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

A page turner with unecessary partisan bias
Revisado: 09-19-23
The book is an up to date biography. It's a page turner and very easy to read.
It is a pity, however, that the chapters about Twitter are filled with partisan bias. (Example: even the most loyal "All-In" followers will not describe JCal as a "moderate".) Perhaps it is written to please the editors, but some of the "right wing views" are today's common sense - one simply needs to talk to the average Jane and Joe to find out on street.
I would have given 5 stars if the unnecessary jabs are replaced by more "matter of fact" descriptions, which the author carried out for 80% of the book.

In 2004, in a stunning upset against the two-time defending champion Serena Williams, 17-year-old Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon, becoming an overnight sensation. Out of virtual anonymity, she launched herself onto the international stage. "Maria Mania" was born. Sharapova became a name and face recognizable worldwide. Her success would last: she went on to hold the number-one WTA ranking multiple times, to win four more Grand Slam tournaments, and to become one of the highest-grossing female athletes in the world.

A sincere book from a sincere person
Revisado: 08-20-23
The book is a page turner. I was surprised by her childhood stories in FL...almost out of a thriller. I didn't follow her career closely then, but I have gained an appreciation now. The bonus feature of the audible version is that Maria read it herself. She is a great narrator.
I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Geoff Shepard had a ringside seat to the unfolding Watergate debacle. As the youngest lawyer on Richard Nixon’s staff, he personally transcribed the Oval Office tape in which Nixon appeared to authorize getting the CIA to interfere with the ongoing FBI investigation, and even coined the phrase “the smoking gun.” Like many others, the idealistic Shepard was deeply disappointed in the president. But as time went on, the meticulous lawyer was nagged by the persistent sense that something wasn’t right with the case against Nixon.

America owes Nixon an apology
Revisado: 03-05-23
I finished Farrell's Nixon biography and listened to this book. I was shocked. The "smoking gun" tape wasn't the smoking gun at all.
The book helped me to appreciate the true DC swamp. I hope the people can one day have a cleaner government and a cleaner capital. Is it a wishful thinking?

A page turner with deficiencies
Revisado: 01-06-22
Perhaps I'm too cynical in nature, but I assume a business only wants to maximize its profit. This is why we have the FDA. The book is a fascinating read, but I'm surprised that the author didn't spend more energy on the FDA. Weren't they supposed to catch the opioid issue very long time ago? How could they still approve its usage for teens in 2015? With such a track record, how are we supposed to trust them with COVID policies?
I also found his accusation of judge Drain overly idealistic and harsh. The reality is that the family outlawyered everyone. Once the case was placed in a bankruptcy proceeding, it would be on a different path. As I think through...They could have been stopped by the FDA long time ago, but they weren't. Will anyone dare to ask why?

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

After months of CRT focused conversations in schools and society, I couldn't help but wonder why we Americans can't focus on helping all who struggle in life. Stop the division and start creating jobs and stable families for America's future.

Historia
The definitive biography of Herbert Hoover, one of the most remarkable Americans of the 20th century - a revisionist account that will forever change the way Americans understand the man, his presidency, and his battle against the Great Depression. A poor orphan who built a fortune, a great humanitarian, a president elected in a landslide and then routed in the next election, arguably the father of both New Deal liberalism and modern conservatism - Herbert Hoover is also one of our least understood presidents.

Excellent story telling and analysis
Revisado: 01-28-21
The book is a perfect balance between story telling and analysis. I came away with greater appreciation of President Hoover's career as a politician as well as a person. I especially appreciated the analysis of the Great Depression, something MSM doesn't seem to recount fairly even through today.
I would highly recommend this book.

Historia
When we seek an example of great leaders with unalloyed courage, the person who comes to mind is Winston Churchill: the iconic, visionary war leader immune from the consensus of the day, who stood firmly for his beliefs when everyone doubted him. But how did young Winston become Churchill? What gave him the strength to take on the superior force of Nazi Germany when bombs rained on London and so many others had caved? In this landmark biography of Winston Churchill based on extensive new material, the true genius of the man, statesman, and leader can finally be fully understood.

A must listen
Revisado: 10-31-20
It's an excellent book packed with legal background, interesting snippets of senator Cruz's encounters, and his political views.
Is it a partisan book? absolutely. But senator Cruz laid out his rationale clearly in each subject and it might be interesting for someone with opposing views to hear him out also.
The narrator did an excellent job to match. In fact, he talks a bit like senator Cruz!
The length of the book is perfect. It's compact yet thoughtful. I highly recommend it.
