A Side of Hugh We Never Knew
Revisado: 01-18-21
For those who’ve read the Kate Daniels series, you’ll understand this. Hugh was a brute, a bully and someone you loved to detest.
In this book, we learn more about why Hugh is who he is and, as in real life, things are never black and white. He’s still a brute and a bully but you come to appreciate the nan inside and begin to cheer for him. He’s not the total monster we knew him to be.
The narrator did a good job though I wished he’d done his homework. Andrea, head of the Boudas, is short, blonde and very American. Why he gave her an Hispanic accent is beyond me.
So outside of that, it was a great story of growth and redemption.

Love this book and this series!
Revisado: 02-21-20
To find a whodunit with a touch of romance (nothing explicit) is unusual and such a gift for us avid "whodunit" readers. Rhy Bowen delivers book after book, detailing the life of Lady Georgiana, who always seems to find herself embroiled in a murder mystery. And, thanks to her cleverness, puts herself unwittingly in danger.
Each book, we have the usual cast of characters that are all part of Lady Georgiana's life. We are also introduced to more and more characters. Her detailed descriptions bring each character to life. And Katherine Kellgren is, perhaps, the best narrator I've ever listened to. She has a voice for each character, the usuals, as well as, new ones. She seamlessly transitions from Cockney to Scottish, to English, to Irish, French and even Australian!
This series has, without a doubt, become my new obsession.

Historia
Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job. Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she's still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be - now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate's mate.

Edge of your seat adventure
Revisado: 11-21-19
Have you ever not wanted a story to end? This is the story I wished continued...and yes, I know it will in book 6. It's not the same. The anticipation of Hugh and Kate and Roland's showdown is looming ever closer. And I do NOT want that to happen anytime soon as I do not want to lose Kate and Curren. But there are so many unresolved issues which need to be addressed...the wait is a killer!

Ilona Andrews Does Not Disappoint
Revisado: 10-24-19
After “One Fell Sweep” I’ve been waiting patiently for Maude’s story. I had to wait even longer for the Audible release and so very glad I did.
The plot was fantastic with lots of twists and turns and angst. The ending was...well now I’m eagerly waiting for the next book.
Natie Naudus did a fine job. My only wish was that they stuck with Renee Raudman. Hearing a different inflection for Arland was disconcerting and I struggled with that.

Whiny and Annoying
Revisado: 08-08-19
Rarely do I find both a storyline and performance lacking...actually, this is a first.
I first need to make a confession...this is the first book I've read in the series. Many books explain things as you go so it's unnecessary to read them in order...this is apparently not one of them. The only thing the author has repeated many times is: this is the good Jason, not the bad one who tried to kill me. So trying to make sense of all the characters is extremely difficult. That's on me for not reading book 1 first.
Here is what I cannot tolerate. Elana is a whiny and very annoying main character. So many reviews identified her as a great character...I'm just not seeing it. There was nothing, and I truly mean nothing, that allowed me to connect with this character. And the narrator, perhaps bravo to her, captured that whiny, annoying character so well that my skin actually started to feel like ants were crawling all over it. I've had the pleasure of listening to many female narrators who pulled off a male voice admirably...this was not one of them.
Many reviewers wrote that they alternated between laughing one minute and action the next. Sadly, I did not find anything humorous about this character. It's unclear to me whether this would be a better book to read vs. listen to. Perhaps Elana wouldn't come across as a whiny, obnoxious young witch if you read it yourself.
I managed to make it approximately halfway through the book before I asked why I kept torturing myself.

Darius Carsington is a spectacularly attractive rake, who's all brains and brawn...and no heart; a man who's equally expert at bedding loose-moraled women and writing scholarly papers. He finds society's "perfect darlings" exceedingly boring. Then why is he so intrigued by the supposedly faultless Lady Charlotte Hayward? Darius senses a crack under her polished surface - and finding it is a challenge he can't resist.

Last but Not Least
Revisado: 04-26-19
This is the last book in the Carsington Brothers Series and is a hoot. Loretta Chase has this wonderful nack of developing characters that are multi-dimensional. Charlotte is strong, smart, witty and makes a fantastic main character. Darius, the rake, is ruled by a logical side...though he, too, is witty, persistent and impetuous when he comes into close proximity to her. The push and pull of these two characters is masterfully done.
True that one finds part of the storyline to be quite fictional...but remember, this is a work of fiction and is meant to be an escape from all the craziness or dullness in your daily life.
All the supporting characters are also well developed. It's so sad that we have no other brothers to vicariously step into their lives for a short while and lose ourselves in it.

Wow! This is Fantastic!!
Revisado: 04-17-19
Kate Morton spun an amazing tale...one that is quite believable and truly touching.
First, it takes almost the entire book to put all the pieces together. This is not a novel that you can fit all the puzzle pieces together.
Second, your heart breaks as it is quite a poignant story about love, promises, and the horrors of war...which makes one sit up and truly appreciate all our veterans and those that are actively serving. It is not graphic in the horrors of war but weaves little clues throughout the entire novel until you realize just how hard it is for those who survive, struggle with survivors guilt, and lose someone who they love with their whole heart in the war.
And the end, well, I haven't shed a tear let alone several from a novel, well ever. Not only did I cry at the end, but as I continue to ponder it, I'm hard-pressed to stem the flow of tears.
Caroline Lee does a wonderful job narrating. I'm looking forward to reading more of Kate's novels.

Has Potential
Revisado: 03-27-19
A young girl who is the direct descendant of a girl who saved President Lincoln and started the first school for extraordinary young women is thrust in this school for developing spies.
As a YA book/series, it has so much potential. Sadly, I was not even closely enamored with the narration. Most of the girl's voices were too similar. Only by their intonation were you able to differentiate. Rebecca Soler did provide British and French accents which were great.
There were times where, as a mother, I just wanted to slap the girls because the author did a great job of portraying the insecurities, cattiness, and shallowness of 11 and 12-year-olds. She clearly understands their pre-adolescent minds.
I would recommend this, especially for middle school libraries.

Historia
At fifteen I fell in love. His name was Jake Stephens and he took the abandoned, lonely girl I had been and made me whole. His love was a pure and unconditional love that made every day better than the last; a fairy tale of my very own. But this story isn't about Jake. It's about Abel Madden; the man I meet after the fairy tale goes to hell. A cocky, arrogant man who says what he wants, does as he pleases, and makes no excuses for it. He irritates me--downright pisses me off at times--but he also brings me back to life.

Very Disappointing
Revisado: 03-01-19
I believe this is the first time that I can not find something positive to write regarding a book I've listened to or read.
First, Tracy Marks's reading style actually grated on my nerves. She does not have a fluid, smooth reading voice. Rather, she throws inflection on every 2-4 words. In addition, there was not a clear distinction between the female characters nor the male characters voices. Aaron Shedlock, who rarely got the opportunity to read, did a slightly better job.
As for the storyline, it was written, I'm guessing, at the 4th or 5th grade level...with the exception of all the swearing. And I would wager that L.A. Fiore thought that if there was enough explicit sex scenes that would cover up for the dismal storyline...it didn't. The characters were 2 dimensional. The transitions between scenes was extremely abrupt. It's not like the narrator read, chapter 2 and the story changed. I can best describe it as whiplash as you attempt to figure out if this is a continuation of the scene or a different scene. And the lack of clear, cut voices for each character contributed to this issue.
I'm sad that I wasted a credit on this book.
