I loved and was intrigued by every episode. At first I didn’t understand the format, once I did I looked forward to what was around the corner and couldn’t stop telling my husband all the stories. Truly high light of my listening this year!

Ok. Crazy. Wow.
Revisado: 01-24-23
I wasn’t sure about entering into this story, being warned that it might not be for everyone , but Betty beguiled me to follow her right down the captivating spiral to the end. This performance was just stellar. I wished I was at the live performance so I could stand to my feet and applaud loudly. This reminded me of old time radio theater thrillers.
The story was something, but hats off to you Betty Buckley, you were spectacular.

Historia
Anyone who prays or has tried to pray and given up in discouragement knows praying, really praying, is not easy. Praying consistently seems almost impossible. Too often and too easily, prayer becomes a burden: one more item on an already overcrowded to-do list. Failing to pray becomes a source of guilt and stress as we must once again admit our inconstancy and procrastination to our father confessor. The purpose of this audiobook, then, is not to add to the burden, but to ease it by distilling the advice and experience of those who pray.

I like to listen to books lately while I clean house or drive by myself. I have listened to this at least four times in the last couple months I have had it. I imagine I will again as it is a great instructional on something that can feel too BIG at times to even accomplish. Mr. Letendre is gracious and inspiring in his paying forward to the rest of us some sage advice on prayer.

Really like how many times I chuckled, or smiled, or even said, "yeah, I know, right?!" out loud while listening to Angela tell her journey. Good listen. I have the book but couldn't get around to it, so I decided to listen to it on a long drive. Great choice.

Honey from the Rock
Revisado: 02-04-19
I once heard the saying, Honey from the Rock, and wondered what it could mean. Still not sure, but it comes to mind when I am thinking of how to review this book. Constantina does a great job at being authentic and telling her story and experiences while passing time as a companion in the lives of some monastic women, and men, that have done what few of us could even imagine. She shares with us her story as she builds relationships with the sisters through the years, and we get also to hear some pieces of their stories. I see where these individuals made hard decisions (rock) and through that commitment to God and each other, and even the world, sweetness is being poured out (honey) on us all.
Constantina talks about us all being in relationship at one point in her book, with each other, with God, and in the end I felt like I was being let into this relationship with the sisters and her. It was a great listen, but as someone else mentioned, I want to get the book and reread and underline important lessons I want to remember. I loved that the author was the reader, it made it all the more genuine. The technical part of the sound did feel a little amateur as it was inconsistent both in sound and speed. Easily over looked.

Revisado: 02-04-19
I was swept into this tale and the characters lives. Horrified also to know the terrible events mirrored the truth for precious many. I am so sorry for those whose lives where actually represented by Lisa Wingate in Before We Were Yours. I respect the research and work that she did to tell us this story. It is a great listen, but be prepared to be deeply affected.

Historia
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation - and triumph over it - ever written.

Amazing reader
Revisado: 02-04-19
I read this in college and remember thinking it was ok. Now, later in life I saw this and decided to take another browse through a C.S. Lewis "serious, but light read" on a road trip.
The thing is with audio books, it can be a bit like drinking from the fire hose on a long trip. The reader was so convincing and politely sinister that the overall affect was spine chilling. Written in a way that leaves one feeling somewhat like those dreams where you are standing in public, going about an ordinary day, and then realize you are naked, exposed without consent...Lol only this being about our natures as humans being exposed. Left alone in the car driving at night, it was a little bit too much to think about....alone... :)
I was very pleased, and "politely" disturbed as one should be after a tale as this.
