Historia
From 1846 to the present day, the Vatican has maintained quite the same message brought forth from Heaven by different messengers across time and across vast distances and continents. This message echoes the gravest of admonitions and calls mankind to convert and find refuge through the knowledge of the truth, which today threatens the very basis of world peace...

Cult like emphasis on French Monarchy Not Mary
Revisado: 11-26-24
This is not what it is described as. It is more of a conspiracy theory set of special prophecies about the French monorchy being restored someday and authoritarian Catholic governments being installed. Not about the apparitions except tangentially. Very weird and creepy. Mostly about secrets and end of the world theories. I returned it.

Just the Right Level of Complexity for Good Listening
Revisado: 07-12-19
Some non-fiction is too complex to listen to while doing chores, etc. But this book is clear and interesting and the prose style reads well out loud. The questions at the ends of the chapters are personal and challenging.

Historia
C. S. Lewis is the 20th century's most widely read Christian writer and J. R. R. Tolkien its most beloved mythmaker. For three decades they and their closest associates formed a literary club known as the Inklings, which met weekly in Lewis' Oxford rooms and a nearby pub. They read aloud from works in progress, argued about anything that caught their fancy, and gave one another invaluable companionship, inspiration, and criticism.

Speed of voice is too slow.
Revisado: 06-21-15
Would you try another book from Philip Zaleski and Carol Zaleski and/or John Curless?
Yes. Definitely from the Zaleski's. The recording is terrible, but I don't think it is the fault of the narrator--the speed is too slow on the recording and neither the 1.0 or the speeded up 1.25 sound natural. The 1.25 is at least bearable, though the faster speed makes the voice unnatural.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fellowship?
The book is non-fiction, so it's not "plotted" for thrills.
How could the performance have been better?
[see above] The recording is terrible, but I don't think it is the fault of the narrator--the speed is too slow on the recording and neither the 1.0 or the speeded up 1.25 sound natural. The 1.25 is at least bearable, though the faster speed makes the voice unnatural. If you play it exactly as it downloads, the voice is artificially slow, drawling, and robotic. Speeded up makes it less annoying, but the tone is still wrong.
Did The Fellowship inspire you to do anything?
Look up more books by the Zaleskies.
Any additional comments?
Please don't make this kind of recording with the speed of the voice manipulated to fit different speeds on different devices. Keep the natural voices of the readers.

Historia
Eccentric and reclusive, Emily Dickinson wrote poetry that reflects the richness of her interior world and the peculiar beauty of her inner vision. During her lifetime, her poetry was considered too unusual to be publishable, but after her death in 1885, Dickinson achieved posthumous recognition as one of the great poetic voices of the 19th century. This collection, read by Alexandra O'Karma, includes commentary and some of Dickinson's letters as well as 75 of her over 900 poems, including such favorites as "Because I Could Not Stop for Death," "'Hope' Is the Thing with Feathers," "There Is No Frigate like a Book," and "There's a Certain Slant of Light."

Best Reading--But some bad information.....
Revisado: 02-11-11
O'Karma's reading is very fine, especially of the letters--and, thank God, does not simper like "The Belle of Amherst." The selection is fair-handed. However, listeners should be aware that there are many points in the commentary that have since been disproven. See especially "Lives Like Loaded Guns" and other examples of the latest Dickinson scholarship. Much of the speculation about love affairs and melodrama in Dickinson's life, carried over from biased or unreliable biographies, is based on gossip and pure fantasy. Listeners should especially distrust any denigration of Emily Dickinson's abiding friendship with Susan Dickinson.
