Historia
This is the charming, human account of the adventures of lovely, wealthy Rose Campbell as she grows into young womanhood. Rose's greatest attraction undoubtedly is that she's such a real girl. She has her trials and disappointments, her temptations and failures. But with the aid of loving counsel and a level head she manages to turn out into a thoroughly lovable, admirable woman.

Verbose and silly

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I can't imagine
Has Rose in Bloom turned you off from other books in this genre?
Perhaps. It left a really bad taste.
Did C.M. Hebert do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
No
What character would you cut from Rose in Bloom?
All of them.
Any additional comments?
As an English teacher, I am not put off by the quaint and Victorian, but this was the worst listening experience I've had.

Historia
It's 1978, and Ave Maria Mulligan is the thirty-five-year-old self-proclaimed spinster of Big Stone Gap, a sleepy hamlet in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She’s also the local pharmacist, the co-captain of the Rescue Squad, and the director of The Trail of the Lonesome Pine, the town’s long-running Outdoor Drama. Ave Maria is content with her life—until, one fateful day, her past opens wide with the revelation of a long-buried secret that will alter the course of her life.

Historia
Six Californians join to discuss Jane Austen's novels. Over the six months they meet, marriages are tested, affairs begin, unsuitable arrangements become suitable, and love happens. With her finely sighted eye for the frailties of human behavior and her finely tuned ear for the absurdities of social intercourse, Fowler has never been wittier nor her characters more appealing. The result is a delicious dissection of modern relationships.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-03-07
I was pulled in by the Jane Austen name; I thought the writing would be at least "Austenish." I found myself in a hurry to be finished with it instead of enjoying the process.
