Historia
For decades, Charlie Flagg has eked out a living by raising cattle and sheep on his modest Texas ranch. This is a wonderful story. I loved the characters so much that I hoped for a certain ending. I recommend this book without hesitation. Be prepared, it’s no fairy tale. Life is hard, but these characters find it worth carrying on in the face of it.

Historia
Martin Eden, Jack London’s semiautobiographical novel, is about a struggling young writer. It is considered by many to be the author’s most mature work. Personifying London’s own dreams of education and literary fame as a young man in San Francisco, Martin Eden’s impassioned but ultimately ineffective battle to overcome his bleak circumstances makes him one of the most memorable and poignant characters Jack London ever created.

I liked everything about it. Martin Eden I can visualize and understand. This isn’t a story for the lazy or it’s wasted.

Historia
Union soldier John Chenneville suffered a traumatic head wound in battle. His recovery took the better part of a year as he struggled to regain his senses and mobility. By the time he returned home, the Civil War was over, but tragedy awaited. John’s beloved sister and her family had been brutally murdered. Their killer goes by many names. He fought for the North in the late unpleasantness, and wore a badge in the name of the law. But the man John knows as A. J. Dodd is little more than a rabid animal, slaughtering without reason or remorse, needing to be put down.

Historia
A literary icon sometimes seen as a bridge between the Beat Generation and the hippies, Ken Kesey scored an unexpected hit with his first novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. His successful follow-up, Sometimes a Great Notion, was also transformed into a major motion picture, directed by and starring Paul Newman. Here, Oregon’s Stamper family does what it can to survive a bitter strike dividing their tiny logging community. And as tensions rise, delicate family bonds begin to fray and unravel.

Difficult listen but don’t give up. Rewind if you need to. It’s tough sometimes know when the character and timeframe has changed, but stick it out, it’s well worth the effort.

I listened to the end, but may not again
Revisado: 08-15-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This is perhaps a great book for many people, but for my taste just a bit far fetched. I don't think I'd change it. I just didn't care for the theme. It was well written interesting portion and well read by Scott Brick. I did listen to the end, but I returned the next book in the series "The Twelve" because I didn't think I would enjoy it as it looks to be more of the same story line.
If you’ve listened to books by Justin Cronin before, how does this one compare?
First one
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Scott Brick does well with them all.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No
Any additional comments?
It isn't the book that has a problem, it is a matter of my preferences. It has other great reviews and that's why I chose it.

Another great author - narrator match
Revisado: 04-20-15
Where does Sign of the Cross rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Near the top. I enjoyed the plot with its twists and turns, the historical information related to the crucifixion and Dick Hill's reading and presentation.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Payne seems like a real person to me and Mr. Hill paints a good minds eye picture of Payne and Jones.
Which scene was your favorite?
Can't say. Many good moments.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
I have never been disappointed with a novel narrated by Dick Hill. When I choose a book, I strongly consider the narrator. These two are a very good match.
