Historia
Maria Bamford is a comedian’s comedian (an outsider among outsiders) and has forever fought to find a place to belong. From struggling with an eating disorder as a child of the 1980s, to navigating a career in the arts (and medical debt and psychiatric institutionalization), she has tried just about every method possible to not only be a part of the world, but to want to be a part of it. In Bamford’s “trademark blend of disarming intimacy and dark whimsy” (Publishers Weekly), Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult brings us on a quest to participate in something.

The dark side of funny made light
Revisado: 01-30-24
If you like Maria’s comedy, you likely will appreciate this authentic, stigma-busting story of all that has come with her humor. I applaud and honor her willingness to reveal what too many struggle in silence with.

Viva has always found ways to manage her mother’s impulsive, eccentric, and addictive personality. She’s had to—for her entire life, it has always been Viva and Charlotte against the world. After accidentally discovering an innate ability for dance, Viva chases her new passion with the same fervor with which her mother chases the bottle.

Worth my time

Great mother/daughter story that captures the tension between resentment and commitment. The evolution of alcohol use disorders is realistic. I devoured the book.
