Historia
Tom Wolfe's best-selling modern classic tells the story of Sherman McCoy, an elite Wall Street bond trader who has it all: wealth, power, prestige, a Park Avenue apartment, a beautiful wife, and an even more beautiful mistress - until one wrong turn sends Sherman spiraling downward into a humiliating fall from grace. A car accident in the Bronx involving Sherman, his girlfriend, and two young lower-class Black men sets a match to the incendiary racial and social tensions of 1980s New York City.

Historia
Welcome to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where shape-shifters, vampires, witches, and dragons live alongside humans. The town formed around the mysterious energy rift in the bayou, which helps keep the town’s magic in balance. But lately the rift has been widening and destabilizing - threatening to send the town’s magical population into chaos. Energy witch Danica Teel has been sent by the League to figure out what’s going on, with the help of bear-shifter Mayor Zed.

Don't judge a book by its cover
Revisado: 06-05-23
This book (and the others in the series) could have a fantastic cover, with bear shifters and bayou scenery, but no, they put a generic creepy couple that do not look like the characters in the book (the male protagonist has long hair. The porn model in the cover has a close shave).
Past that the book is very entertaining. It was not a disappointment after book 1 in the series for me (as for other reviewers).
The double narration was very annoying, I did not like having two "Zed voices" (one by the male narrator and one by the female narrator).

Historia
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Loved it!
Revisado: 06-03-23
This book did not disappoint in any way. It was funny, it was sexy, it was social sciencey, it was a murder mystery, it was romantic, it was fantastic. I like that it is written from the point of view of a smart woman. Well, every other chapter. By the way, the chapter titles are not "Bayou" (as written), but "Bael". I hope the rest of the series is as fun as this first book.

Historia
Before she was a trauma cleaner, Sandra Pankhurst was many things: husband and father, drag queen, gender reassignment patient, sex worker, small businesswoman, trophy wife... but as a little boy, raised in violence and excluded from the family home, she just wanted to belong. Now she believes her clients deserve no less. A man who bled quietly to death in his living room. Sarah Krasnostein has watched the extraordinary Sandra Pankhurst bring order and care to these, the living and the dead - and the book she has written is equally extraordinary.

Best book I have read in years
Revisado: 12-24-22
This is what I call great writing. And the narrator was superb, doing various different voices, while not distracting us from the narration. The whole book is so touching.

Historia
Meticulous, funny, eccentric - Mary has always been mindful of the complex role she plays as a professor of history. Her lectures are carefully written out beforehand; her departmental loyalties ambiguous. She is so careful, in fact, that she began to see herself as flat, dull, and lifeless. The closing of Brandon College, the institution she'd spent more than fifteen years at, changes everything. Forced to find another position, Mary finds herself at an experimental college in rainy Oregon.

Just a little longer, please!
Revisado: 05-11-22
I wanted the ending to be a little longer into the story! Would love to hear more of what Mary had to say. And what happened after she was done saying it.
