Love This Series, but Really…
Revisado: 01-11-25
As I stated above, I have loved this series and this new (to me) author who has created a world and characters interesting and adventurous. But now I’m not sure I will even finish this listen. The h has fought off a would be thief, a terribly wicked niece and traveled all the way from England to the mountains of Wales. Now it comes times to confront the villain she’s, (and her entire entourage) are too scared and insecure to do so. Really? REALLY?! Of all the stupid and unbelievable plot twists. I hate when authors revert back to tired and over used cliched scenarios to create unnecessary drama. Can NONE of you overcome this creative sickness? Apparently not. Now I just have to decide if I’m curious enough to turn the book back on or too frustrated to give a SugarHoneyIcedTea. I’ll write another review if if I do.

She is blessed with a large, loving, and protective family. But she secretly dreams of marriage and children, and of walking—and dancing. When Ben Ellis comes across Lady Jennifer as she struggles to walk with the aid of primitive crutches, he instantly understands her yearning.

Oh This Lady!
Revisado: 02-06-24
This lady, this Mary Balogh, is just too much! How can she create another wonderful series? How can she write one amazing book after another? How can she make me fall in love with each H/h of every novel? How can she make me experience everything from laughter to tears to sadness to happily emotional tears in each book? I don’t know the answer to any of those questions. I just wait all bated for the next. Regarding Steph and Bertram (from another series) I can only say two things: please don’t make her amazingly thin (as she is perfectly beautiful as she is) and please please please please pleeze write it soon. Thank you for another great listen as well. I just love Rosalyn Landor.

Great mystery; predictable plot twist
Revisado: 02-04-24
This series is well written and performed. The mysteries are challenging and unpredictable. What was very predictable and unimaginable and very yawn worthy was the plot “twist of the H birth. Can’t y’all think of something else or leave the man happy with the life and circumstances you placed him in? This man loves his job, but no…he can’t be a commoner and get the h. Yawn and yawn again. Even so I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I’ll probably roll my eyes and skip the inheritance part, but I won’t be missing much.

Tiresome Whiner
Revisado: 12-16-23
I liked the story overall, but got tired of the heroine’s constant feelings of inadequacy, guilt and worthlessness…during the entire first book. Yes, all 25+ chapters. I’m going on to the second book in purchase of the entire series (as a compilation) to see if, or when, this female goes from a petulant, self-defeating whiner to a woman of power. I’ll let y’all know.

Another good mystery
Revisado: 03-28-23
So glad I gave this author another chance. The mystery was a good one, even if it was a bit predictable. I’m also very glad there was not a lot of the tiresome “unworthy” sub-plot going on. If there is another Atlas mystery I beg the author not to fill it with more tiresome unrequited love/predictability of a dead spouse for the H’s friend.

I almost stopped listening to this book when yet again the twist of the H/h being out of reach due to whatever reason so the H/h must sacrifice their love on the alter of nobility. OMG can’t you guys come up with anything else…really?!
To top it all off this book ends on this very stupid cliff-hanging note of ridiculousness.
Great mystery though…at least

Another Great Listen
Revisado: 03-17-23
I find this author’s grasp of plot, story and characters interesting and developed. These books are truly mysteries, not just romances with a dab of mystery thrown in. There is a bit of romance, but it is actually just a bit. I also like that there is none of that tired and tiresome “will they, won’t they” or boring “too noble, must sacrifice happiness because they are not good enough”. It’s a mystery, that is a mystery.
For this book the narrator was not well chosen, but it was not enough to distract me or make me not want to finish. She was not great, but she was ok. After all, it’s about the book, not the performance.

Interesting and Good…Until It Wasn’t
Revisado: 02-24-23
The steampunk premise of this book is very interesting. The mystery was solid with more than one apparent villain. I liked that a lot. I was even enjoying the romance until that same old tired “plot twist” of the H/h being too noble, driven or prideful (or in this case noble, driven and prideful) to inflict their unworthy self on the other. I almost stopped listening when the H declared that he “may not be her last lover, but he’d damn sure be the first” then proceeded to act out that very detestable scenario. The sex was a bit too graphic for me personally, but I know how some of y’all like a bit of female porn with your romance. I did continue the book, just skipped over the sex. It ended with drama, excitement and the HEA we all want.

Same Tired Ending Plot “Twist”
Revisado: 02-21-23
Overall a good book. What ruined it for me was the author’s use of that tired old standby of her/him being too noble to marry because doing so will ruin a life or (even more tiresome) cause the loved one to hate him/her eventually. Really? Again? Surely there’s something other than that to cause some drama? The only twisted drama that’s worse for me is a book filled with the H/h’s relative hating and planning to destroy all the love and happiness in the world. I can’t roll my eyes hard enough.

Real!
Revisado: 02-21-23
First for the TINY bad bits: the new narration threw me a bit. I’d loved the distinctly Irish voice of the artist in the first book so hearing not only a new female voice (without the Irish accent) as well as the addition of a male’s was off-putting. I tried to return the book…unsuccessfully. Am I glad of that!
This book is fantastic and real. A real mystery. A real dilemma. Real moments of humor that surprised a laugh out of me and finally very real truths. The truth of life for women during this time, no matter their station; the truth of how life changes and instills experiences and wisdoms on us; the truth of how we evolve and life despite these realities.
I can’t wait for the next installment of this series. I’d have paid two credits for it, lol.
