This book provided a plethora of insights into incarceration, and our broken system of justice. I found myself rooting for Laura despite her decisions because she, at all points, took total responsibility. She's a wonderful mother, human being, and writer. This is one of the best books I've ever listened to.

The story of this doctor's life in Nome was intriguing but I have two major complaints. There are far too many extensive, gruesome descriptions of surgeries and treatments that don't really highlight what life was like in Nome. My more major complaint is the fact that little attention is given to his wife. He does go into an extensive description of her labor and delivery, but other than that, we hear nothing about what life was like for her when Nome was dark 24 hours a day and she was home alone with a newborn and a toddler. Meanwhile, the author was at the hospital having interactions with others. He doesn't even acknowledge that his wife was dealing with no electricity, darkness, cold, and the need to entertain two infants all day long everyday. it frustrated me that her sacrifices were never acknowledged. The performance was excellent. I will look for other books read by this narrator.

The story would have been less toxic if written by a 20-something author. This 45-year-old mother of two (divorced) leaves her children with their father as well as a huge real estate deal she is responsible for as a realtor, to seek her "soul mate" in Paris based on a reading by an astrologer. When in Paris with her sister and best friend, she spends her time swiping on Tinder, etc and meeting up with potential soulmates (yes, that word is used about 10 times per page) instead of seeing any of the sights Paris has to offer. Even worse, she has made a flier describing her search for her soulmate (worded exactly as such), which she plasters all over Paris and places in windshield of parked cars. This is just in case anyone cares about her search for, yes, a soul mate, I guess. So she litters, ignores her sister’s pleas to accompany her to at least one museum, and naval gazes through Paris ad nauseum. Thank goodness I bought this as a Daily Deal and did not waste a credit.

The book, both in terms of the story and the narrators, exceeded my expectations. The chapters alternated between protagonists and it was easy to tell the voices apart. Both stories, to me, were engaging. Definitely helped pass the time while commuting and out for walks.

These stories range from touching to annoying, especially those written and/or read by Busy Phillips.

I usually like essays by Anna Quindlen but these are very simplistic, similar to a conversation I might have with friends. The essays are not personal to her life story but rather, are her opinions on politics, current events, etc. Even though I share her political leanings, there was nothing interesting here.

Love Sutton Foster but the book spent hours on her struggles with infertility as if this were a unique experience. Loved the first half, which dealt with her rise in the show business industry. I wanted more inside info on Bunheads and Younger but they were mentioned only in passing.

Anna's stories make me want to get up and move! Her spirit is contagious. I never get tired of hearing her describe her adventures, her love of the outdoors, and love for her friends. Absolutely uplifting.

No need to read Anna's books in order (although she does refer to her cross-USA bike trip briefly, a few times). I did not think I would be interested in this adventure as much as the first but it was equally good. Anna's reading makes you feel like she is telling you the story personally. In this book, she comes to important self-realizations but it is never heavy-handed. Her ability to run through pain, low spirits, hunger, and thirst were inspirational. The descriptions of New Zealand were amazing. Love this series and am on to the third.
