Terrific set of short stories about the near future and new ways of sustainable living in a world where the current system has collapsed.

Terrific little novella. A detective story with just a little bit of fantasy. Keeps things simple but riveting, quick paced but also thoughtful. The characters feel like real, rounded people and not archetypes.

What needs be said about this book? It is the genre king and forefather of most modern horror. A lurid artwork of resplendent evil, fascinating characters, and the origin point of so many archetypes. Worth every moment of listening.

A brilliant, compelling, moving account about the end of the world and the birth of a new one. Really enjoyed the ensemble cast and their personal struggle to try to save whatever tiny fragment of mankind they could from a pitiless, uncaring universe that didn't even notice it was destroying them. Wonderfully interesting characters and some really deeply considered thoughts about what humanity might look like 5000 years in the future. It stumbled in a few places when Stephenson went on epic, pages-long information dumps about scientific topics, but those don't last long and don't interrupt the story significantly. Also really appreciate how hard the science was in this book, basically everything that happens is either based on real technology or based on things that we know are possible but don't have the industrial or engineering know-how to actually pull off yet.

Recommend this to anyone who likes science fiction, disaster stories, survival stories, or any combination thereof.

A tremendously faithful retelling of a classic tale of endless horror and eternal love and triumph. All the same wonder and splendor of the original, but with modernized and cleaned up grammar, actual dialogue, and much stronger characterization.

Absolutely recommend.
