A little hard to understand at first
Revisado: 01-16-20
It took me quite a while to adjust to the author’s accent so that I could understand her. Overall, it’s a good book. Lots of good things to think about and use.

Historia
As a kid growing up in Manhattan, William Helmreich played a game with his father they called "Last Stop." They would pick a subway line and ride it to its final destination, and explore the neighborhood there. Decades later, Helmreich teaches university courses about New York, and his love for exploring the city is as strong as ever. Putting his feet to the test, he decided that the only way to truly understand New York was to walk virtually every block of all five boroughs - an astonishing 6,000 miles.

Sociology Textbook with Manhattan Examples
Revisado: 06-16-19
I mistakenly listened to this book hoping to learn about Manhattan. Instead I was taught remedial sociology, complete with section titles so I could follow easily. The examples were usually about Manhattan, but they were scattered around the city in a way that was frustrating if your main interest was learning about Manhattan and not sociology. And I would have thrown my iPad across the room if I had to hear one more time about his walking every street in the city to write the book. I ended this book thoroughly hating it.

Historia
Hardcore Self Help: F**k Depression is the follow-up to the best-selling F**K Anxiety. In this book I take the information, tips, and insights that I have gained as a psychologist and translate them into language that doesn't suck. This is the self-help book for people who don't usually like self-help books. In Hardcore Self Help: F**K Depression, I talk to you like a friend. That means I speak directly to you, without psychobabble. Instead I tell you why your brain is such a troll.

Extremely Helpful and Very Entertaining!
Revisado: 06-20-17
This book is terrific! The material is extremely helpful. The author is extremely knowledgeable and a great communicator. I benefited a lot from the very helpful information in the book, plus listening to the author perform his book as I drove back and forth from work lifted my spirits a lot. And since I was very depressed that was a huge bonus. If you suffer from depression, please read and/or listen to the book. And try to have an open mind about his colorful language. It contributes to the communication of his message. And is very funny!

Historia
We have all experienced the connection between our mind and our gut - the decision we made because it "felt right"; the butterflies in our stomach before a big meeting; the anxious stomach rumbling when we're stressed out. While the dialogue between the gut and the brain has been recognized by ancient healing traditions, including Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, Western medicine has failed to appreciate the complexity of how the brain, gut, and, more recently, the microbiome - the microorganisms that live inside us - communicate with one another.

Great book, lousy reader
Revisado: 06-16-17
This was a terrific book. Lots of remarkable information from an expert in the field. The reader was really ad. Very old school authoritarian style like a 1950 newsreel announcer. He read it like it was a Presidential executive order to murder all the male children under four years of age. Traber, lighten up!
