Historia
The man known as Cheradenine Zakalwe was one of Special Circumstances' foremost agents, changing the destiny of planets to suit the Culture through intrigue, dirty tricks or military action. The woman known as Diziet Sma had plucked him from obscurity and pushed him towards his present eminence, but despite all their dealings she did not know him as well as she thought. The drone known as Skaffen-Amtiskaw knew both of these people.

Nope! Does not work as an audible book.
Revisado: 11-14-18
The structure of this book does not work at all with the two intersecting story lines. But I could not keep clear in what story line I was on. And within the storylines it jumps a lot. It kind of pays off in the end but not really. Maybe read this one.

Loneliness madness lords and sims.
Revisado: 04-22-18
MILD SPOILERS. There is a lot to think about here and for the most part the book is pretty enjoyable even though I thought I knew where it was heading. Still not sure were reality and simulation diverged. Some great ideas packed in an okay package.

Meh. Is okay.
Revisado: 10-17-16
Fun ride but all the twists and turns make it unbelievable. Characters are kind of cartoonish stereotypes for the most part. Performance is pretty great. I would have liked it better if it had ended a couple of chapters earlier without the final twists.

Revisado: 09-17-15
Maybe the best book I have listened to so far this year. The three main protagonists are really well drawn and their motivations make sense. The overall scenario seems frighteningly real and after this summer almost upon us. Here I sit in water rich Vancouver caring about #pheonixdownthetubes. It's the first book I have listened to by this performer. She did a great job.

Think piece disguised as a novel.
Revisado: 07-04-15
I enjoyed this book from one of my favorite authors but it left me wanting. The opening sentence is one of the best in science fiction, but it is never paid off. It felt like the author was seeing up"what if" scenarios and seeing how they would play out. As a result the story feels a bit tacked on and the characters feel a bit one dimensional. Having said that the book takes us to some fascinating places and I had a hard time stopping listening. I hope there is a sequel!!!

Two stories smashed together rather awkwardly.
Revisado: 05-17-15
There are two tales here and both could stand on their own but making them into one felt awkward and somewhat unbelievable. That's along with the complete lack of a likeable lead character meant this story did not have the same appeal as other works by this author. Narration performance is very good.

Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Cool idea well executed.
Revisado: 02-19-15
Loved, the idea and the extra novella fleshed out the story nicely answering most of my questions about the disease the book did not go into. The plot in the book is a little thin, but the world is well realised and left me wanting more. I hope there is a sequel our two.

Historia
Seventy years ago, the interstellar supercarrier Ark Royal was the pride of the Royal Navy. But now, her weapons are outdated and her solid-state armour nothing more than a burden on her colossal hull. She floats in permanent orbit near Earth, a dumping ground for the officers and crew the Royal Navy wishes to keep out of the public eye. But when a deadly alien threat appears, the modern starships built by humanity are no match for the powerful alien weapons.

Pretty entertaining.
Revisado: 02-05-15
The author has mixed a bunch of old style military tropes from both world wars and further back into a tail set in the future, it is kind of jarring. There is not much character development and not much explanation of the science. But it is a good ride and I am looking forward top the next book.
