Historia
Bee Hobbes (aka Bianca Von Honey) has a successful career as a plus-size adult film star. With a huge following and two supportive moms, Bee couldn’t ask for more. But when Bee’s favorite producer casts her to star in a Christmas movie he’s making for the squeaky-clean Hope Channel, Bee’s career is about to take a more family-friendly direction. Forced to keep her work as Bianca under wraps, Bee quickly learns this is a task a lot easier said than done.

Ok this is porn
Revisado: 10-26-24
This is porn. It is not romance story telling. It was chosen as a book club title and I listened to the whole thing. There is a love story here but it’s mixed with graphic descriptions of how he nearly overflows his condoms (ick).

Like all good books about a performer, this one inspired me to go back and listen (and ultimately, download) many of her best works. Enjoyed listening to her tell her own stories about the songs. Well worth the listen.

Historia
From 1783, when German immigrant John Jacob Astor first arrived in the United States, until 2009, when Brooke Astor’s son, Anthony Marshall, was convicted of defrauding his elderly mother, the Astor name occupied a unique place in American society. The family fortune, first made by a beaver trapping business that grew into an empire, was then amplified by holdings in Manhattan real estate. Over the ensuing generations, Astors ruled Gilded Age New York society and inserted themselves into political and cultural life, but also suffered the most famous loss on the Titanic.

Good bit of history

Really enjoyed the book but some choices were made that I found strange. Such as including people who aren’t actually Astors and leaving out actual Astor family members.

Historia
Eighty has been the new sixty for about twenty years now. In fact, there have always been late-in-life achievers, those who declined to go into decline just because they were eligible for social security. Journalist, humorist, and history buff Mo Rocca and coauthor Jonathan Greenberg introduce us to the people past and present who peaked when they could have been puttering—breaking out as writers, selling out concert halls, attempting to set land-speed records—and in the case of one ninety-year tortoise, becoming a first-time father. (Take that, Al Pacino!)

Historia
Why is Miami… Miami? What does the heartbreaking fate of the cheetah tell us about the way we raise our children? Why do Ivy League schools care so much about sports? What is the Magic Third, and what does it mean for racial harmony? In this provocative new work, Malcolm Gladwell returns to the subject of social epidemics and tipping points, this time with the aim of explaining the dark side of contagious phenomena. Through a series of gripping stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering

Always love Malcolm but gotta disagree
Revisado: 10-26-24
Loved the book but as a healthcare provider and a patient who needed pain relief but couldn’t get it adequately due to the system’s fear of opioid abuse, I don’t agree with his take on the opioid epidemic. The real victims are patients like me (who had a double knee replacement and later a spinal fusion) who couldn’t get adequate pain control d/t prescriptions being regulated by the government to combat opioid addiction. I went to physical therapy in pain and suffered needlessly. I see his point about how Purdue pharma manipulated the system, but think that Purdue, not patients and healthcare providers, should’ve paid the price for this.

Lovely little romantic story
Revisado: 10-26-24
I really like Abby Jimenez’ writing. It unrealistic, like most romance stories, but I don’t read romance novels for realism. Perfectly crafted escapism that also paints a favorable picture of nurses. I do agree that the male narrator needs to work on his female voices.

Sooo boring
Revisado: 10-26-24
I’m usually a giant history buff and really liked the Game of thrones novels but this book is so boring. I think it might be the monotone of the narrator. All the material just runs together and I’m not able to kept the time periods or the characters straight. Maybe if I read it as a physical book I would’ve enjoyed it more.

Historia
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, is one of the most recognizable and mysterious figures in the Harry Potter series. As an unscrupulous beetle-like journalist once said, he's "a biographer's dream." Is he omniscient or limited? Is he benevolent or malevolent? What really drove him in the last years of an extraordinary life? Dumbledore dives between the lines of the Harry Potter books to create a portrait of the controversial Headmaster. We find Dumbledore's hand in every seeming coincidence and consider the impossible decisions he had to make.

The theories are a real stretch
Revisado: 07-01-24
The author starts the book by saying he doesn't believe that Dumbledore was omniscient but then spends the rest of the book stretching his theories into convoluted ramblings that rely on the idea that Dumbledore is so smart that he figures everything out or that he is using legilimency or that he is using the deluminator to spy on everyone's conversations. I found many of his theories extremely improbable. I don't think the book was worth the price. I also agree with other reviewers that the reading of the footnotes was extremely irritating but this isn't the performer's fault.
