The Shadow was long believed to have debuted on radio as a program in its own right on September 26, 1937, on the Mutual Broadcasting System. But the character actually premiered in September 1931, on CBS, as part of the hourlong The Blue Coal Radio Revue (named for the show's sponsor), featuring Frank Readick - The Shadow announcer of Detective Stories - as The Shadow, and playing Sundays at 5:30 p.m. Eastern standard time.

The sound quality is very inconsistent, ranging from fantastic to barely understandable from episode to episode. But, beyond that, this set contains some real genuine gems including episodes from the often forgotten Australian radio production of The Shadow. For real Shadow fans it is worth the few dollars and the digging between episodes for the treasures in this set!

If you like detective fiction or radio serials, this is one to add to your collection. Jeff Regan and the Lyon will remind listeners of an edgier Archie Goodwin & Nero Wolfe. In this series Jeff (our Archie) is not only driving the action, but solves the cases with the Lyon doing the bulk of the background work from his office chair.
Full of action and dames and interesting plots, this collection is a keeper.
