A confirming word
Revisado: 10-18-23
I have had this book in my library for some time waiting for the right time to listen and it was indeed a divine appointment. I am a first generation college student with my own story of God's redeeming grace and much of Nona's story resonated with me. I also appreciated the practical way in which she discussed honoring God within Corporate America but I most relished the final chapters explored through the lens of recognizing the creep of compromise and the painfully familiar story of the collision between corporate success parenting/ family. All of which were interwoven with scripture. Thank you Nona, your words were a confirming word to my spirit.

"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

Non-condeming retrospective for the parched soul
Revisado: 10-27-22
Recommended by my Pastor to our congregation at a time I expected, having just finished a masters program, that my life would slow down. Surprise, it didn't and life without margin is exactly how I would describe it. No magic bullet but food for thought and practices to consider for sure.

If I could capture every Amen as I listened! So many of the experiences in this book resonated with me and my journey for my truth. However, there were also important themes for developing magic at a young age in our black children.

Austin Channing Brown’s first encounter with a racialized America came at age seven, when she discovered her parents named her Austin to deceive future employers into thinking she was a white man. Growing up in majority-white schools and churches, Austin writes, “I had to learn what it means to love blackness,” a journey that led to a lifetime spent navigating America’s racial divide as a writer, speaker, and expert helping organizations practice genuine inclusion.

Healed my soul!
Revisado: 08-03-20
There are few stories to offer a middle class Christen black girl from a small town a shared experience. Not white but only "blackish" in the minds of many. Struggling to find voice and just flat out struggling to navigate the world and corporate America around her. On a Sunday afternoon I binge listened and I healed my soul with Austin's words. There are already parts I know I will revisit again and again. Thank you Austin for finding your voice. All I can say is Amen!

Historia
Some of the world's most successful companies - Google, Disney, Starbucks - are not simply profit-driven, but purpose-driven. They identify the purpose behind why they do what they do and let their "why" drive what they do every day. Nicholas Pearce argues that we all should do the same: discover our "why" and commit to the journey of aligning our daily work with our life's work. The Purpose Path is for people in any field who long to have more than just a job or a career, but a true vocation that allows them to connect their soul with their role.

Loved the substance of the book. Dr Pearce spoke to areas of my life that I need to evaluate to connect purpose to my work. Some of the illustrative stories went longer than necessary for me. Would have preferred. to hear more of Dr Pearce's personal experience and research.

Historia
With so many responsibilities and distractions vying for our attention, too many of us have built unhealthy cycles of rest. As a result, we burn ourselves out, striving and straining against God's intent for our lives. We can only sustain a life of purpose if we learn to truly rest. In Soul Rest, Curtis "CZ" Zackery reveals how our misaligned view of rest has its roots in an identity that is out of rhythm with God. This thoughtful reflection on rest calls us to the hard work of self-examination, helping us move towards a purposeful and sustainable life with Jesus.

Revisado: 12-09-18
I had this book in my library for months. Started it, but was having trouble sinking in. Then I had a traumatic experience in my life that forced me to re-examine everything and this is the point where this book made perfect sense. Your soul has to be ready for what this book has to offer, which is simply a place to start.

Is it possible to have peace in an uncertain world? To not only expect the unexpected but embrace it? Most of us want to have life under control. But God wants us to anticipate the unexpected with a faith deeply rooted in his goodness. He wants us to know that because he is in control, we don't have to be. In Unexpected, beloved author Christine Caine helps us walk into the life God has for us - unknowns and all. Using dramatic examples from her own journey, Christine offers real-life strategies and biblical inspiration to help us move from fear and worry to hope and trust.
