Historia
Molly Murphy always knew she'd end up in trouble, just as her mother predicted. So, when she commits murder in self-defense, she flees her cherished Ireland, under cover of a false identity, for the anonymous shores of late 19th-century America. When she arrives in New York and sees the welcoming promise of freedom in the Statue of Liberty, Molly begins to breathe easier. But when a man is murdered on Ellis Island, a man Molly was seen arguing with, she becomes a prime suspect in the crime.

Historia
Edgar Allan Poe is an American boy in England, a child standing on the edge of mysteries. In 1819, two Americans arrive in London. Soon afterward a bank collapses. A man is found horribly mutilated on a building site and an heiress flirts with her inferiors. All the while, Poe's young schoolmaster struggles to understand what is happening before he and his loved ones are destroyed. But the truth has its origins in the New World and the Old, in a bitter episode of corruption during the War of 1812.

Entertaining, easy listen!
Revisado: 05-12-13
Simon Vance gives yet another stellar performance in An Unpardonable Crime. Set in 1819, this story chronicles fictional events in the childhood of one Edgar Allen Poe, as experienced by schoolmaster Thomas Shield. Featuring several grisly murders, a love interest, and plenty of intrigue, this was one quick-paced audiobook that I just couldn't hit the pause button on.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Great Performance, Terrible Book
Revisado: 05-12-13
Davina Porter gives an excellent performance and I would definitely be interested in listening to something else she performs. However, I'm actually only 50% done with this book but done listening this tripe, so I deleted it from my device.
This book is, for lack of a better word, extremely "rape-y." I am not sure what I was expecting, but starting about 40% of the way through the book, Claire tries to escape and go home to her own time, gets caught by the English, is beaten and almost raped, then is rescued by the Jamie. When they're all safe, he beats the shit out of her for having disobeyed him.
WHAT?
And it all goes downhill from there - violence arguments, violent sex, threatened rape. This book is bullshit. As a woman who has experienced domestic violence - physical, mental, and sexual - I am OFFENDED by this book. This is just another in the disturbing trend in recent novels to idealize (and even fetish-ize) manipulative, violent men and psychotically violent "love."

Historia
Ree Reyes’s life was easier when all she had to worry about was scraping together tips from her gig as a barista and comic shop slave to pursue her ambitions as a screenwriter. When a scruffy-looking guy storms into the shop looking for a comic like his life depends on it, Ree writes it off as just another day in the land of the geeks. Until a gigantic “BOOM!” echoes from the alley a minute later, and Ree follows the rabbit hole down into her town’s magical flip-side.

Like Pulling Teeth
Revisado: 05-12-13
In order to finish this book, I had to stop listening to this audiobook and switch to my Kindle for the written version. The performance is awful. The narrator has an annoying high pitched voice and her readings are stilted and unnatural. I literally couldn't get through the first chapter.

Amazing Performances
Revisado: 01-19-13
I am now on the 8th book of the Harry Dresden series, and I've listened to all but one of the books on Audible. I have to say that my preference for the audiobooks over a hard copy is solely due to James Marsters' narration. Reading a Harry Dresden book without hearing James Marsters' voice is like eating a grilled cheese sandwich with no tomato soup. It's good, but it's just not quite right.
