Where does Scotch Broom rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Scotch Broom is among the best of the audiobooks I've listened to so far.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Scotch Broom?

My favorite sections of the book are Kat's meetings with her traveling companions in the otherworld: Sianach the stag, Cusith the green hound, Cait Sidhe the cat and Diamond the unicorn. Not the most dramatic sections of the book perhaps, but it is so refreshing to meet a group of fey creatures that haven't already been used over and over again in works of fantasy.

Have you listened to any of Lisa Baarns’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to several of Lisa Baarns' performances besides this one, they are all of uniformly high quality.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A young witch lost in the Otherworld, a scheming has-been goddess; what could possibly go wrong?

Any additional comments?

This is the third volume in the Witches of Galderheim series. I'm hoping for a fourth.

What made the experience of listening to Midnight Oil the most enjoyable?

Hearing the characters I had come to like while reading the book brought to life by the narrator

What was one of the most memorable moments of Midnight Oil?

There were three: the memorial service for Kat's father; her meeting with Grrk, the disemvowelled (you'll have to listen to the book to figure that one out) castaway, and Rune's introduction to the ultralight.

What does Lisa Baarns bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ms Baarns has a very pleasing voice, and she uses it expertly to give each character a distinctive personality.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The memorial service for Kat's father early in the book was particularly well done.

Any additional comments?

I particularly enjoy the artful and mostly humorous blending of ancient tradition and folklore with aspects of the modern world such as the witches riding both broomsticks and ultralights and the trolls and their snowmobiles. The fact that the snowmobiles are sold by the fat elf up north who runs a dealership in the off season makes it that much better. Also, it is refreshing to meet a heroine who uses her head to get herself out of mishaps rather than waiting for someone to do it for her.

Would you consider the audio edition of Bad Spelling to be better than the print version?

There is a great match here. The cover picture is the protagonist, and the voice in the audio version is the same voice I heard in my head when reading the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kind of a toss-up between Kat and her brother, Rune, but I have to go with Kat. She's no super-hero, but she does what needs to be done. She's on a journey of discovery - unsure of her goal, unsure of her own abilities, not even sure of what she's trying to find, but determined to get there no matter what. Most importantly, she's not relying on anybody else to make it easy for her. Nice to see a YA adventure where the heroine isn't depending on some plot-twisting 'hot guy" to rescue her and make everything all better, and who's little brother isn't either an annoyance who needs to be repeatedly rescued or some sort of "out-of-left-field" solution to the problem. Rune loves his sister (admit it or not), he's a smart-ass and a real pain sometimes, but he's got her back. The two of them make a great team.

Have you listened to any of Lisa Baarns’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Like I said earlier, Ms. Baarns voice matches the voice I heard in my head when first I read the story. For me, that's as good as it gets.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Want to be a witch? it's gonna cost you!

If you could sum up Missing, Assumed Dead in three words, what would they be?

Clever plot twists

What other book might you compare Missing, Assumed Dead to and why?

I don't often read murder mysteries, so it's difficult to find a comparison. I was originally drawn to the book because of the eastern Oregon setting, an area I am both familiar with and fond of. The setting contributes a lot to the story, the characterizations are good and the twists and turns of the plot kept me guessing to the end. Very well done.

Which character – as performed by Lisa Baarns – was your favorite?

I first read this as a print book, so when I came to the audio book, I had some preconceived notions about how the characters should sound. Lisa Baarns' interpretation of Kam McBride almost exactly matched the voice I heard in my head while first reading the book. The other characters were also quite believable, with each character voice distinctive enough that I always knew who was speaking. A thoroughly enjoyable performance.
