Very unique, interesting story. Well-written. Good character development.
Nice combo of mystery solving and sudden action.
I'm 68 and all I can think about during the physical scenes though is, "MAN! Is our hero ever going to be in a world of hurt in 15 years when all those injuries turn into arthritis!" Ouch! Poor guy...so dedicated!
Enjoyed Mr. James's book so much I've added him to the list of my favorite authors.
Oh, and of course, Angus King is my favorite narrator. Searching for him is what lead my to this "new" author!

JD Kirk is one of my favorite authors. I love his cast of characters so much. They feel like an endearingly dysfunctional family.
There is always a lot of humor and humanity marbled throughout the action and mystery.
That is what makes me feel so joyful while "reading" his novels.
And, of course, the Scottish brogues are like music to my ears!

Loved the book. Very interesting, unique storyline.
Incorporated cultural history of a famous Welsh miners' strike in the mid-80s. Being American and only in my 30s in the 80s I knew nothing about it. It was tragic and added a unique plot line to a murder mystery.
Add old affair, kidnapping, a bully billionaire and present-day Italy to the mix and you have quite a ripper.
I also adore the female narrator. Such a strong, lyrical voice and beautiful accent.
Very satisfying read!

I love Scottish crime novels. This is the first in what I hope will be a long series about DCI Lomond.
Great character development, good plot and wonderful narrator. I actually discovered this book via the narrator.
Angus King narrates the JD Kirk series as well. I've ripped through all of his thrillers, so searched for other novels with Angus as the narrator and viola!
Thrilled to add another favorite author.
