Seneca is the complete package. He's smart, sexy, and confident, much to Chevy's annoyance. They've worked with each other for two years, and even though Chevy might secretly find his partner charming and attractive, playful harassment is all they have. Chevy was born with a unique gift that allows him to go into the memories of others. As detective, he uses this ability to find peace for victims who have been hurt or attacked. But neither Chevy nor Seneca are prepared when they are asked to go into the mind of a serial killer in hopes of finding survivors.

A Mind-Bending Thriller That Delivers
Revisado: 08-31-24
Within the Mind by Alice Winters pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t let go. It’s a wild ride through the human psyche, blending psychological suspense with intense action in a way that keeps you hooked.
The story centers on Chevy, a guy with the incredible, yet burdensome, ability to enter other people’s memories. This power is both a gift and a curse, pulling him into a series of brutal murders where the lines between past and present, reality and memory, start to blur. Chevy is a relatable character; he’s far from perfect, which makes him even more compelling. You can’t help but root for him as he navigates the murky waters of his abilities and the moral dilemmas they bring.
But what really sets Within the Mind apart is how it dives deep into questions about identity, memory, and the nature of reality. It’s more than just a thriller; it’s a thought-provoking exploration of what makes us who we are, and how far we’ll go to protect ourselves and the people we learn to love from the painful truths buried in our past.
In short, Within the Mind is a gripping, thought-provoking read that lingers long after you’ve finished. If you’re into thrillers that challenge your mind while keeping you on the edge of your seat, this one’s a must-read.

An Entertaining Yet Over-Hyped Fantasy
Revisado: 08-30-24
“A Court of Thorns & Roses” by Sarah J. Maas is a fantasy novel that offers a mix of enchantment and intrigue but might not fully satisfy all readers. The book is often praised for its immersive world-building and complex characters, but it’s hard to ignore the strong parallels to “Beauty & the Beast.” The story of Feyre, a young woman who becomes entangled with a mysterious, cursed faerie lord, echoes the familiar tale of love and redemption, albeit with added layers of magic and darkness.
However, the book is not without its inconsistencies. Some plot developments feel forced, and the pacing can be uneven, making the story occasionally feel disjointed. While the romance and action keep the pages turning, there are moments where the narrative loses its momentum or takes a predictable turn.
It’s also worth mentioning that the book seems to be overly hyped. While it’s certainly an enjoyable read, especially for fans of fairy tale retellings, it may not live up to the high expectations set by its enthusiastic fan base. If you go in expecting a good fantasy story with familiar elements and don’t mind a few rough edges, you’ll likely enjoy it. But if you’re looking for a groundbreaking read, you might find it falls short.
Despite these critiques, the book remains a fun and entertaining escape into a richly crafted world. I plan to continue with the series, but with a more grounded perspective on what to expect.

Historia
For the first time New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice writes as C. Travis Rice. Under his pen name, Rice offers tales of passion, intrigue, and steamy romance between men. The first novel, SAPPHIRE SUNSET, transports you to a beautiful luxury resort on the sparkling Southern California coast where strong-willed heroes release the shame that blocks their heart's desires.

Slowest narration
Revisado: 06-27-23
I have never needed to listen to an audiobook above 2.0 speed, however, this book is almost required because of the slow narration which was performed by the author. The story was cute & had the typical twists & turns for an expected outcome.

Historia
Ash Winters is barely holding on, near drowning in his own darkness and fear. He lives a gray shadow of a life, sullen and cynical, unable to remember hope or happiness - much less the distant, fading glitterball of love. It has to be a sick joke of the universe that he finds himself hooked up with good-humored Essex boy Darian Taylor, a wannabe model in a sparkly jacket and a fake tan. Darian may not be an intellectual giant, but he's hysterically funny, and he's got the courage to challenge Ash to live again.

Simply the BEST & new favorite
Revisado: 02-10-22
The House in the Cerulean Sea brought up so many emotions I had forgotten books could make you feel. I quickly fell in love with each character, & with every chapter, I discovered that this had become my new favorite book.
I laughed, gasped, & cried. So much depth within the writing that has left an imprint on my heart, that I’m so very grateful for.
TJ Klune created a beautiful masterpiece & was perfectly narrated by Daniel Henning.

Historia
By day, 17-year-old Jo Kuan works as a lady's maid for the cruel daughter of one of the wealthiest men in Atlanta. But by night, Jo moonlights as the pseudonymous author of a newspaper advice column for the genteel Southern lady, "Dear Miss Sweetie". When her column becomes wildly popular, she uses the power of the pen to address some of society's ills, but she's not prepared for the backlash that follows when her column challenges fixed ideas about race and gender.

This was a recommendation, which I also highly recommend
Revisado: 01-17-22
With so many twists & turns, you’ll find yourself saying one more chapter until you realize you’re at the end. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book in as quickly, because I wanted to know what happens next. There were many time I caught myself laughing aloud or gasping with new developments from the brilliant writing Stacey Lee brings to the characters. Also, hearing multiple references of ATL & knowing are just down the block from where I live, I was transported back in time as if I was seeing my neighborhood.
Emily Woo Zeller does a beautiful narration. Being from the South, I love the Southern drawl that brought a smile to my face.

Cooper has spent the last three years running from a painful past. He's currently moving from town to town, working in restaurant kitchens, and playing his violin for tips. As soon as he starts to feel comfortable anywhere - with anyone - he moves on. He's aware that music may be the only human language he still knows. Ironically, the one man he's wanted to communicate with in all that time is deaf.

Hard pass & remove from library!
Revisado: 10-30-21
I read the summary & thought the story would have more depth. I was intrigued with the idea of a Deaf character, Shawn, but was left highly irritated by the narration of the “deaf voice”. It was borderline offensive how Shawn was voiced even though the story depicts him as being fully deaf.
Additionally, there was hardly any background provided about Shawn’s life & all centered around Cooper. His story might dive deeper in the next book in the series, but I struggled to make it through this one & have already removed the other books in the series.
