Narration is a Travesty

The story is great, but the narration is horrendous. The accents are unplacable, sometimes sounding British, sometimes Australian, and others Irish all while from time to time attempting the worst southern accent I've ever heard. It's extremely distracting and makes the book impossible to enjoy.

The overarching idea made for a good plot, but the execution wasn't great. I could not get Bill Clinton out of my head while listening to this; I was constantly wondering if this presentation of a president's thoughts and actions actually reflected how Bill Clinton felt in that role, which was a bit hilarious. Poor Dennis Quaid was not meant to narrate books, his gravely voice, particularly when he attempted woman's voice, was distracting and hard to listen to. Nevertheless, I persisted through. I doubt I would listen again, though.

I thoroughly enjoyed this listen - having the multiple narrators was fresh and entertaining. The story was excellent and felt quite realistic; I actually Googled whether The Six was an actual band (which may say more about me). Overall a great read.

Wonderful Stories Horribly Performed

I cannot say a word against Austen's work. The performance of her masterpieces, however, is frankly horrendous. The reader speaks in a robotic monotone with strange accents and annunciations, and she mispronounces and leaves out words. I truly cannot express how unsatisfying it is to listen -- I couldn't even make it a chapter into Emma, the first book. And this is said from someone who regularly listenes to the text-to-speech function on the Kindle, which is actually robotic.
