Wonderful and heartbreaking
Revisado: 05-21-16
I was obsessed while listening to this book. This story is vey engaging. Provides a different point of view to our quality of life. Definitely not the typical happy ending. But I like how the message is to live boldly and don't take your life for granted

Historia
Charlotte owns a Birmingham bridal boutique. But with her own wedding day approaching, why can’t she find the perfect dress - or feel certain she should marry Tim? Then Charlotte purchases a vintage dress in a battered trunk at an estate sale. It looks brand-new, shimmering with pearls and satin, hand stitched and timeless in its design. But where did it come from? Who wore it? Charlotte’s search for the gown’s history begins as a distraction from her sputtering love life. But it takes on a life of its own as she comes to know the women who have worn the dress.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Powerful story about the Lacks family
Revisado: 03-29-15
This story was referred to my by a colleague who happens to be a science teacher. My first thought was I am an ELA teacher will i find this book too scientific for me to understand? However I did not. This story is so powerful. There are so many issues that can be debated in a classroom setting or a book club setting: Ethics in science, jim crow laws, John Hopkins and financial compensation to the Lacks family, capitalism and geneticists. Excellent story. Heartbreaking at times. However, it provides great historical insight on how the world of pharmaceuticals, medicines and vaccines etc. began.

Historia
Written during a long wait, this book opens up Cheryl's painfully honest, personal journals. She explores what it's like to enlist in God's Marriage Boot Camp, and how to survive singlehood year after solitary year. She wrestles with her Creator over multiple best friends that never see her "that way." Then there are those lists of what she wanted - you know, the ones she revised a billion times then laminated for safekeeping. She watches, bewildered, as much younger women find love that seems to elude her.

Great story!! Honest depiction
Revisado: 03-22-15
I think this is one the most honest books I have heard on the topic of singleness. I could relate to so many things that were said. At some points of the story the topic got underneath my skin but I guess that means I really needed to hear it. Overall great story, like the novel it teaches single women that God is our first husband. I like that its not fluffed with a lot of religious cliches but I has an honest account and uses the word of God to support.

Historia
Since she was just a little girl, Jessie Stone has dreamed up hundreds of marriage proposals and fantasized about wedding dresses and falling in love. She’s been a bridesmaid nearly a dozen times, waved numerous couples off to sunny honey-moons, and shopped in more department stores for half-price fondue pots than she cares to remember. But shopping for one key component in her own happily ever after hasn’t been as productive–a future husband. The man she thought she would marry cheated on her. The crush she has on her best friend Blake is at very best…well, crushing.

Teaches Single women that God is our First Husband
Revisado: 03-22-15
I thought this was a great story. As a single women in her thirties I could relate to the sentiments of the main character Jess Stone. I thought this story did a great job in showing single women how God has our best interests at heart. I also like how it depicted the honest struggle of true surrender to God (the purple pen) as well as the rewards (Jonathan). I listen to the story in one day. :-)
