It’s pretty quirky, a little dumb, but pretty annoying. Skip it unless you have a good tolerance for cringe.

Expanding your world view and dealing with stoic conflict avoidance is pretty weak. I purchased this book to find resolutions, not strategies to manage my mental health.

At Best: This book is useless in finding a way forward, but provides solid guidance for dealing with a shitty situation you cannot leave.

At Worst: This book takes a victim blaming approach, and helps you manage your disdain.

This was more of a self-help book than an informative depiction of what distinguishes a Sigma from the others. It’s also read with a cheesy 90’s type self help intonation. It wasn’t for me, but if you are an early 20’s guy with no idea who you are….have at it.

This book spends approximately 40 minutes poorly describing the studies, and immediately attempting to discredit them. The authors spend the next 8+ hours bloviating on their HYPOTHESIS.

(Note: Mass psychogenic illness (MPI)is a known phenomenon that admittedly could be the answer, but the authors lack any evidence beyond conjecture and colloquialisms.)

At best, this book wreaks of self righteous opportunism. At worst, it is a legitimate attempt to convince the masses to ignore salient facts, and renowned professionals, while denying the capabilities of the enemies of the United States.

Robert Bartholomew is a medical sociology professional and Robert Barlow is a neurology professional. They absolutely have a perspective from their areas of expertise, but this book flippantly disregards theories originating from fields outside their areas of expertise. They regularly cite the laws of physics, while they seem to lack credentials or expertise in the field. I do not know if either holds a security clearance to see additional information. I also do not know if either has any first hand knowledge of a single data point.

At the end of the day, this is a hypothesis, with a whole lot of historical examples of MPI. If you are looking to learn about Havana Syndrome, read the studies. At least the studies contain first hand, quantifiable facts and an explanation of their scientific findings.

While I find some of Mahbubani’s assertions laughable, the vast majority are thought provoking and it’s very well articulated.

His points on diplomatic investment are spot on, including the de facto sale of ambassadorships.

Russia as an eventual U.S. ally is interesting and, in my opinion inevitable.

India as the likely counterbalance to Chinese power…absolutely not. Isolationism from U.S. interests, and membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization show a demonstrated intent. Paired with the overwhelming majority of the U.S. population’s apathy, it is almost laughable.

The U.S. population loved the Indian people as they watched “The Life Of Pi” and “Slumdog Millionaire” but as soon as Mindy Kaling or Axiz Andari start whining about the lack of brown folks in Hollywood, the majority stops listening.

The U.S./ India relationship is easy because we are a simple people. Send us your tired,, your poor, your huddled masses…..but make sure you send those willing to diffuse within our melting pot. Our culture is strengthened by our diversity, not compartmented subcultures.

Send us your Dev Patels, and Priyanka Chopras. Celebrate your Tulsi Gabbards, and Nora Jones….We will come around quickly.

The science behind presence was well explained without the over-explanations typical in this type of book. The practical application and direct benefits were easy to understand with an appropriate number of examples. The performer was clear and understandable throughout, while conveying appropriate expression.

I recommend this to anyone struggling to find their confidence; shy people; and business professionals interested in appropriately displaying confidence without being cocky.

He lied to you....time to move on. Aside from that, it’s a decent compilation of stories. There are a few fantastic ones inside and a few insights to go with. I didn’t a lot of new information but I was entertained.

Give it a go if you are interested in the darker corners of humanity but aren’t looking for the science behind it.

Mandatory Reading for Leaders

Revisado: 01-02-18

If you could sum up Multipliers, Revised and Updated in three words, what would they be?

Understand Leadership, Sucka!

What did you like best about this story?

It provides a framework for leading different personalities and enabling their inherent talents.

What about Liz Wiseman and John Meagher ’s performance did you like?

Clearly presented and fluent. Honestly, I did not realize it was the author since many audible books are professional voice actors.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Turning opposition to symbiosis

Any additional comments?

This book discusses Multipliers and their opposite, euphemistically named Accidental Diminishers. The Multipliers portion seems obvious, while the Deminisher side was eye-opening. Assuming the readers are mentally stable, invested in their company, and have a genuine desire to lead a successful team, applying the principles to your workplace will improve the culture.

My only negative is the excessive "name dropping" and repeated mention of accolades. We purchased the book, you've already sold us and you are awesome! Don't try so hard ;)

Very interesting content. This should be recommended reading for all leaders, managers, and businesses practitioners.

Leadership is a social contract and the system only works if trust is both given and received. This book tells you how to build it. Intelligent Disobedience by Ira Chaleff tells you how to maintain it from a subordinate's perspective and Patrick Lencioni's Five Dysfunctions of a Team tells you how to maintain it from the boardroom.

The performance was good but there are some noticeable hiccups. I would also like to see some companion documents for a few key pages.

The author is brilliant and you will enjoy the audiobook.

Honestly, a portion of the book is the teamwork makes the dream work pep talk and then it transitions to a long audio recitation of a questionnaire....rinse, repeat.

The information between derailments is phenomenal so if you can deal with the format issues, it's worth listening. 🤓

Go, Team!!
