Scythe was terrific. So entertaining and fun. In this sexual, Shusterman managed to take the many seedlings he planted therein and make them blossom into the grandest themes here. Highly recommended!

Wow, wow, WOW!!
Revisado: 01-11-18
A most brilliant, beautiful, breathtaking conclusion to an amazing series. The narration here was as close to perfect as one can get. I was completely immersed in the story. I read the first two books; yet hearing this third and final installment became a seamless transition thanks to how wonderfully it was performed.
I feel grateful for the experience. Listening to the book took me away from at times a not all that pleasant reality.
The story itself deserves a mention, if only to address an issue others may confront when beginning this final chapter in this stunning trilogy. My best friend of nearly three decades, she and I almost always read the same books. Our tastes are that well matched. Given that she had a similar reaction, I’m betting we aren’t the only ones.
The first two books, they are full of hope, and promise. There’s a foreshadowing throughout that just maybe, things will find a way to settle, such that all the groups at the center of the story will ultimately come to a satisfying compromise. This third book, however, from its very beginning, it buries its readers in violence and cruelty, followed by evil beyond what most of us may have come to expect from the series.
Much of the book occurs in a setting that is rife with such wickedness. There is so much of everything that is BAD and WRONG with humanity reflected in here. My best friend abandoned the book less than 15% into the story. Me personally? I struggled with it all. Whereas the first two books only took me a day or two to complete, this one took over a week. It wasn’t until at least 60% in that I began to trust in Ness, and in the series, enough to know that I would not abandon it until I had read the last page.
I am so very thankful that I stayed with it! It was fantastic. Such a rare treat. Especially given that each book in and of itself was a gorgeous wonder. And the series? Absolutely one of the best I’ve ever read.
So speaking to anyone who may have had similar issues with this final book, I urge them to stay with it, to trust that Ness has his reasons ... that our vicarious suffering for the people in this story for whom we have developed a real affinity, that our emotional investment in them, none of it is misplaced. And the reward of having completed this last book, and therefore the series, it feels great.
An awesome conclusion to an exceptional series.

I’m a heavy reader. A true bibliophage. Last year was a light year for me—2017—but still I consumed 79 books. And still, never have I loved a series so. Ness is brilliant. He makes his works irresistible. And the narration here is just about perfect.
My strongest recommendation!

Historia
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old, he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. I lack the words to express my true love of this novel. I read 3-4 books a week, yet this one is this year's favorite, without a doubt.
I finished it moments ago, paused to write this review, then will play book 2.
Thank you, Audible, from taking me away from a tough time in life. Thank YOU, Ken Liu, for gracing the world with your idea. Thanks to your wife as well, as you have said this book was a joint effort.
This book is HUGE in its ideas; stupendous in its breadth and content! Gorgeously composed, and wonderfully recited. Highly recommended!

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Brilliant and unlike ANY of its genre companions!
Revisado: 04-01-17
Where does The Fifth Season rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Top 3, without a,doubt.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Essun. Love her strength. And her development. But Alabaster also.
What does Robin Miles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her accents, her obvious passion for the story! I had read it in 2015. Her narration made the reread such a pleasure!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely!
Any additional comments?
JK Jemisin is a national treasure. I feel like she should be protected almost in the ways we defend our heads of state!

Historia
This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

I tried to wait for book 3 .... Boy, how I TRIED!
Revisado: 04-01-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Obelisk Gate to be better than the print version?
Tough question! I listened to 90%, and read the rest. However, Ms Miles! WOW! She was the most wonderful selection for this book, as well as the first in this series. She gave the most perfect voice to book 2 of my most favorite book of 2015 (5th Season). NK Jemisin helped get me through a very tough time, a point in my life where I was not able to read much. And this STORY!!! I relistened to book 1, then went into this one. It is so unique, so beautiful, so heart-wrenching, eloquent. In a word, BRILLIANT. The instant book 3 is available for pre-order, I will be on it. MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Tough question, but Essun remains my favorite. My, how she has grown. I love her strength, her logic; her moral code. Beautiful.
Which scene was your favorite?
There were so many favorite scenes. The lessons from Alabaster, the reveals, the WORLD Jemisin built from NOTHING. It humbles me to know a woman is this skilled in constructing such a complex world AND the systems at play there. Amazing.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Without a DOUBT! I don't cry (nor laugh) easily when reading. But here, oh yes. Nassun's relationship with Schaffa, but also with the one Stone Eater? My oh my! What a set-up to the final book!
Any additional comments?
I want to thank NK Jemisin for gifting this extraordinary story upon the world. For the 1st time in my life, I chose to listen as I was, drifting off to sleep, even, because wanted ... needed to know what happens next. Exciting and addicting from start to finish!
