Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

I enjoyed it, easy read. I always have trouble following his characters, but it is usually worth any extra effort. Really not fair to compare to his later works. The book was clever and did hold my interest.

Interesting novel that reflected upon actual event
Revisado: 08-05-21
The novel went back and forth from the forties back to the first world War. Normally I find this confusing and distracting as I try to follow the story. in this novel it worked well .
good narration. Looking forward to reading something else by this author. I enjoy narrative non fiction.

OVER ABRIDGED! Book lost great deal of impact
Revisado: 05-20-21
I read this book almost 40 years ago and I decided to read (listen) to it again. As I listened to the book it was suddenly finished. And I realized that something was wrong. I had bought the abridged version on audible. I got the book from the library and compared to the audible version. Dismal comparision. The abridged version is a dreadful version of a great early writing of Sidney Sheldon. I reread the book and it was just as good as it had been years earlier. This abridged version is pathetic. I don't know who is responsible for that, but I will be more careful.
