Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Great Narration of a Must Read Title
Revisado: 10-15-23
I read this for a book club, but it had been on my personal tbr . The narrator was PERFECT. I can't say I "enjoyed" the book, but it's wild how easy it is to manipulate people and change history. Ha ha look at Wikipedia- i mean I contribute when they ask for $$$ because I use it all the time. BUT- on those political hot button issues Wikipedia just straight up changed history and slandered any who disagree with the current narrative.

Calvin's Letter to Sadoleto

Historia
This collection of correspondences between Calvin and Sadoleto is an excellent primary source view of the most controversial issues facing Christians at the time. The split between Reformation and Roman Catholic beliefs was growing ever larger and the consequences more severe. While Calvin writes with deep theological arguments and in defense of individuals searching for truth, Sadoleto’s pleas sound more like an emotional cry for unity, peace-keeping, and the return of the Catholic Church’s lost children.

Driving while listening to this could be dangerous
Revisado: 09-30-23
This is a classic for students of church history. I hate to be negative but the narrator's voice is just nails on a chalkboard. There are also some notable mispronunciations. I wanted to listen again to list the errors in pronunciation and better describe his voice (because it's been a few months) - however i just could not bear to listen to that voice again.

Ian Holm had me hooked
Revisado: 08-21-23
I had forgotten who Ian Holm was- i simply chose this version (listening/reading for a book club) because it was available "free" as part of my audible plus. The story is an auditory page-turner and Mr. Holm's performance was just right- not overdramatic which i hate. He was so good I enjoyed the listening more than the reading. Highly recommend, and I am now looking for his other audiobooks.
