Narrator is awful. I can’t finish it.
Revisado: 07-26-24
The story is so predictable and tedious. The narrator is impossible to listen to. He chops up sentences and when he adds onto the sentences things like “he said” or he thought”, etc the inflection is completely wrong and it sounds weird and disjointed like an afterthought which it’s not. It should just be a continuation of what he just said. Maybe if there was a different narrator this would be an ok book but I can’t even finish it, it’s so irritating.

More of a YA book. It would be better with a better narrator. It’s a good story tho.

Get a new narrator
Revisado: 11-17-23
If it wasn’t free I wouldn’t have listened. The narrator is terrible and continuously mixed up peoples voices and emphasizes in the wrong places making the sentences not make sense or give them different meaning to what they should have. She’s irritating and squeaky. The story is childish and predictable but it passes the time.

Historia
Margaret "Peggy" Thomas and her husband, James, lead a simple and peaceful life; she tends to the farm while he works as sheriff in the nearby town of Bleak Knob. Their evenings are spent doing the thing they love most - being together. One afternoon, after picking up fabric at the general store, Margaret watches helplessly as James is gunned down on the sidewalk in front of her. Days of mourning turn into weeks and then years, filled with little more than grief and alcohol.

Nasty

The story itself is very poor but I thought I would struggle through it even tho the author was trying so hard to write a western and clearly had no clue. But it is so disgusting in parts that I can’t even finish it. Glad I didn’t actually pay for this trash.

Historia
Dublin, 1962. Within the gated grounds of the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Redemption lies one of the city's Magdalen Laundries. Once places of refuge, the laundries have evolved into grim workhouses. Some inmates are "fallen" women - unwed mothers, prostitutes, or petty criminals. Most are ordinary girls whose only sin lies in being too pretty, too independent, or tempting the wrong man. Among them is 16-year-old Teagan Tiernan, sent by her family when her beauty provokes a lustful revelation from a young priest.

Narrator sounds like she’s reading a list
Revisado: 03-08-23
The story is really good but the narrator ruins it. Whenever she’s reading something that’s narration or description, she sounds like she’s reading off a checklist. Every. Single. Time. Very repetitive and boring.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Narrator whispers!!
Revisado: 01-14-23
Is this book a secret? Why does the narrator whisper half the book? It’s so hard to hear it even with the volume turned all the way up because she’s constantly whispering. Very frustrating! I love the tv series and the book is great, it’s just the narrator that’s the issue.

BORING NARRATOR
Revisado: 01-13-23
The story Would probably be really good, except for the narrator. She sounds bored reading it and is very monotone. I really enjoyed The Clockmaker’s Daughter but Joanne Froggat is a much better narrator.
