Historia
Every parent, teacher, social worker, therapist, and physician should have this succinct and informative audiobook in their back pocket. Framed with both humor and compassion, the book defines the top 10 characteristics that illuminate the minds and hearts of children with autism. Ellen's personal experiences as a parent, an autism columnist, and a contributor to numerous parenting magazines coalesce to create a guide for all who come in contact with a child on the autism spectrum.

Not too universal
Revisado: 03-01-20
The author tried to talk about the good traits of autism. Like they never lie... she never met my kid. Good news is he is horrible at lying but the bad news is he doesn’t stop even though I call him out on his BS. I know the bully didn’t throw the school across the road and shot up the play yard with a gun.
I know their are good traits, my son talked early, walked early, just lacked expressive language, preferred labeling things and repeating questions he knows the answer too.
This book explains things I already know and puts some concept into different words, but I find myself drifting and not really listening to much of it because it’s not filling in the gaps or explaining anything I don’t already know.

Pretty good.
Revisado: 01-22-20
Read John elders book and grew curious about what happened to his brother. Crazy story, bipolar is a serious disorder which this story seems describe the disorder with amazing detail.
The beginning seemed over written, where details were almost painfully over described to the point where I was worried it would be distracting enough to keep me from getting lost in the story. I found the writers style to be very detail oriented but later on I actually enjoyed the level of detail and felt it was an amazing book and the I also thought the movie was good just more condensed and the fathers character seemed void of any emotion and very robotic.

Historia
Ever since he was small, John Robison had longed to connect with other people, but by the time he was a teenager, his odd habits, an inclination to blurt out non sequiturs, avoid eye contact, dismantle radios, and dig five-foot holes, had earned him the label "social deviant". No guidance came from his mother or his father. It was no wonder he gravitated to machines, which could, at least, be counted on.

A very fun book that shows how the gifts can sometimes outweigh the burdens. A truly inspirational story!

Historia
John Robison argues that Asperger's is about difference, not disability. In this book he offers stories from his own life and from the lives of other Aspergians to give the reader a window into the Aspergian mind. Equally important, he offers practical advice - to Aspergians, their parents, and educators - on how Asperians can improve the weak communication and social skills that keep them from taking full advantage of, or even recognizing, their often remarkable gifts.

Better understand my son
Revisado: 07-16-19
My son does many of the same things mentioned in this book and I could not figure out what was him acting out or him just being different. He would laugh and smile at me when he deliberately did things he shouldn’t like drilling holes in his door or me yelling at him for hurting his brother.
I feel this book gave me a much needed understanding that has helped tremendously! I wish I could thank the author personally!

Historia
Misfit, truant, delinquent. John Robison was never a model child, and he wasn’t a model dad either. Diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at the age of 40, he approached fatherhood as a series of logic puzzles and practical jokes. When his son, Cubby, asked, “Where did I come from?” John said he’d bought him at the Kid Store and that the salesman had cheated him by promising Cubby would “do all chores”. He read electrical engineering manuals to Cubby at bedtime.
