Historia
Sarah Quinlan's husband, Jack, has been haunted for decades by the untimely death of his mother when he was just a teenager, her body found in the cellar of their family farm, the circumstances a mystery. The case rocked the small farm town of Penny Gate, Iowa, where Jack was raised, and for years Jack avoided returning home. But when his beloved aunt Julia is in an accident, Jack and Sarah are forced to confront the past that they have long evaded.

Good story-ugh narrator
Revisado: 11-02-23
I liked the story, love the author, but the narrator is really yuck. Pause in the middle of sentences, and none at the end between them. So annoying that a narrator doesn’t know basic grammar rules. Also, her voice for the husband was ridiculous. She sounded like a novice trying to talk like a man, a wallowing man at that. A voice actress, in my opinion and hundreds of audiobooks, should be way better.

Revisado: 07-02-23
The protagonist was beyond annoying and just dumb. Too much waffling. I was unsurprised by pretty much everything. Really have like this author in the past, but disappointed today. I felt like the timeline for the lockdown was really off, like the mention of air travel not being available? Anyway, I read a lot of books multiple times, this will not be one of those books.

Jim Dale is awful
Revisado: 02-11-22
Please tell me how Bellatrix is French even though she’s from England. Just because her last name is French? Stupid. He has no idea of the characters. Luna and Jenny sound like men, way too many sound like old ancient men.
So obnoxious.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Hate Jim Dale’s narrating. Where does he get his idea of pronunciations and accents?! I want Stephen Fry!

Revisado: 01-14-22
The way this man pronounces words and his voices are ridiculous. I suffer through because I love the stories. How he got away with this without Rowling stepping in is beyond me. Why or why can’t we have Stephen Fry in the US??? Ugh! 2 more to go.

Narrator made me Heartsick
Revisado: 09-04-21
Absolutely love Chelsea and her stories. This narrator nearly killed this book. If it weren’t for the amazing story, I would’ve been done. A period in a sentence means PAUSE. She ran sentences on, her Gretchen voice was horrible, and she had the intonations all wrong.
Why was this approved for this book?!
Also, CODIS, is pronounced with a long “O”, and is not “coitus”, which means “sex”, you idiot!
What idiot in thriller/crime novel genre downs t know how these acronyms are pronounced? You can figure that out watching Dateline. 🙄

Historia
Does a respected adoption agency have a frightening secret? Tipped off by a determined ex-colleague on a desperate quest to find her birth mother, Boston newspaper reporter Jane Ryland begins to suspect that the agency is engaging in the ultimate betrayal—reuniting birth parents with the wrong children. For detective Jake Brogan and his partner, a young woman's brutal murder seems a sadly predictable case of domestic violence, one that results in two toddlers being shuttled into the foster care system.

Grammar rules so not apply
Revisado: 08-18-21
I’ve never written a review before, but this one was just too much.
The narrator takes the most absurd pauses while reading, at times where pauses should not be made in the sentence. It was so incredibly distracting! Grammar rules should be followed, and pauses taken when a punctuation mark indicates. This is basic!!!!
The story, eye roll, good heavens. So much exposition where it is not needed. I do not need to know every adjective there is to tell me what the insignificant couch looks like. I can’t even understand how this got published. The way the narrator read the story, or probably how it was written too, made the whole thing obvious.
It felt like torture forcing myself to finish this.
