Historia
Like every other hobbit, Bilbo Baggins likes nothing better than a quiet evening in his snug hole in the ground, dining on a sumptuous dinner in front of a fire. But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard’s band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all.

Historia
If Alison Kerby really wanted peace and quiet, she never should have opened the Haunted Guesthouse. The Jersey Shore lodge's latest polter-guest is Richard Harrison, the recently murdered brother of long-time resident ghost PI Paul Harrison. Alas, a beyond-the-grave brotherly reunion is nowhere in the foreseeable future - phantasmal Paul left the guesthouse months ago for parts unknown, and for all her ghost-whispering prowess, Alison has no idea how to find him. And she's going to need Paul, because Richard's isn't the only murder still unsolved.

Overall fine
Revisado: 09-27-22
This book seemed to have two endings. It was probably an editing error. It was disconcerting and odd, but the story is overall fine and the characters are like able and entertaining, so I still gave it three stars.

Awful story about an abused child
Revisado: 05-22-22
I wanted to read an action adventure story, and instead had to wade through the main character’s horrifying childhood experiences. No thanks.

Historia
Lost in time, the town of Black Creek, Kentucky becomes home to temporal layers of people, creatures, and monsters from disparate eras. Journey beyond the time of humanity and witness the rewriting of mankind’s genesis. For Owen McCoy, a typical day on the job as head of security for Synergy, a research company conducting mysterious experiments, is boring at best. And that’s the way he likes it. Patrolling the Appalachian mountainside, where his now deceased father taught him how to hunt, is relaxing and connects him to the past.

WTF
Revisado: 12-03-21
The premise was interesting, but this turned out to be Christian propaganda disguised as science fiction. I was too far into the story before I realized. Now I feel like this is several hours of my life I will never get back.

Police procedural
Revisado: 08-23-21
Why did I buy a police procedural? It took seven or eight chapters just to get through the first day after they found the body. Lame. And by about midway through listening to it just for background I not only fell asleep for an hour and didn’t rewind, but also wanted to know how it ended. It just took way too long to get there.

Historia
On a freezing February day, a stranger emerges from out of the gray to request a room at a local provincial inn. Who is this out-of-season traveler? More confounding is the thick mask of bandages obscuring his face. Why does he disguise himself in this manner and keep himself hidden away in his room? Aroused by trepidation and curiosity, the local villagers bring it upon themselves to find the answers.

Spoilers
But at least we didn’t have to sit through it this time. Just allusions, and memories (or lack thereof.) a nail biting edge of your seat story, and I assume we need to read this one to know what is happening in the next. If I read any more of Briggs’ books, that is.

Historia
A cursed druid, blackmailed by a faery queen to find a missing magic rock. Let's just hope they don't hack the druid off...for everyone's sake. Name's Colin McCool. Folks call me the Junkyard Druid. I hate that name. Despite my last name, I'm not "cool" like the other hunters in town. I don't run an occult bookstore, I've never owned a Harley, and I didn't inherit a family fortune passed down through generations of hunters before me. And I kind of have this curse on me that's messed up my life.

Historia
Teddy Cannon isn’t your typical 20-something woman. She’s resourceful. She’s bright. She’s scrappy. She can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn’t realize: She’s actually psychic. When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: It’s competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive.

Horribly predictable
Revisado: 04-05-19
Narrator just didn’t seem to get the inflection right. Just sounded a little flat the whole time.
Only read this if you are the kind of person who likes to hate the first 45 minutes, just to be dragged into a story whose every twist and turn leads exactly where you expect it to go.

Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, a.k.a. the Apocalypse, upon the earth. They’ve made allies on the darker side of many pantheons, and there’s a globe-spanning battle brewing that ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will be hardpressed to survive, much less win.

I am so, so sad about the end... ***Spoilers***
Revisado: 04-13-18
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I was on board for all of the left-leaning propaganda (I loved it, in fact) but I did not like the end.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Why does Atticus just roll over and take it at the end? He's a fighter. Also, Granuaile could have learned some things about herself - changing her perspective - and yelled at Atticus for leaving her out at the end but seriously?!?!?! leaving him on his own when he just lost such an important part of himself is incredibly harsh. And I'm a feminist.
Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
yes - he doesn't do as well at differentiating Granuaile and Atticus' voices as he has in past works, but he is still amazing. Slo-mo and Oberon, Starbuck and Orla - plus the three main characters. Such range!
Did Scourged inspire you to do anything?
cry and drink.
Any additional comments?
I still laughed at all the silly jokes and puns, I just didn't see the end coming. I don't care if it would have been trite if Atticus was triumphant. Leave him something besides the dogs, for goodness sake.
