Unique and creative but…
Revisado: 12-05-23
I liked the first book and was excited about the second, however, the story bounces around so much it was hard to follow at times which also caused the story to feel slow and meandering.

Cool story, but rough, cringy narration.
Revisado: 01-08-23
I liked the book Spinning Silver and that narrator was awesome so I was hoping for more of the same. Uprooted is a good story. However, I had to fight through sticking to the book or abandoning my credit due to the clunky and weird narration. I can understand having the character’s personality in the narrator, and I liked many of her choices. But it sounds like it was difficult for this narrator to read- and often, it does sound like she is reading it for the first time and hasn’t rehearsed the lines prior to recording. It was a real challenge to follow. More than half the time I had to rewind whole chapters to figure out what in the world was happening. It’s a long audiobook to not know who is who and not have differentiation/announcements at the beginning of the chapters as to who’s point of view we are listening to. Rough. Cringy. Clunky. Yet still, I plowed through. What really bummed me out was that the ending got particularly murky due to what sounded like narrator fatigue. Maybe if I had the pages actually in front of me I’d know what happened instead of just a general idea.
I plan on listening to more of this author but would encourage the narrator of this book to smooth it out a bit.

Great story, recording ok
Revisado: 09-18-22
There are some major sound issues, such as mic clipping, ASMR issues in the sound recording of the performer. There are fans, ending of line cuts noise, sound gate issues, repeat lines, and plain old blowing out of the microphone when the performer is trying to convey a bigger voice. I’m no pro, but even an amateur like myself finds things like this avoidable, and sonically distracting from the story. Didn’t someone check this? At one point in the previous story I almost fell off a ladder as I was working due to the sound editing being SO LOUD from one sentence to another. Alas, I stuck with the story and I’m glad. It’s good despite the switch of performers (which I’m not terribly thrilled with) and the sound issues. Where is Elaine Wise?!?

Gray Matter
Revisado: 05-16-22
This story is a travesty toward the well-being of wolves. The deaths of humans due to wolves is not only one thousand percent unrealistic, but an uneducated and obviously ignorant story about an apex predator who has historically, wrongly been villainized. Harold is the best part of this story. Thank god for Harold.
