This story is predictably unpredictable. There are all kinds of complications that arise during Faction Wars, which are awesome BTW, with solutions that get ruined in “I didn’t see that coming!” sorts of ways. Also, new secrets and subplots are revealed, providing ample teasers for suture books. Overall, this book was everything I was hoping for.

Jeff Hays is at the top of his game. It is great to see him finally receiving the recognition he deserves. He has been a top notch narrator for years, and now everyone is seeing his talent.

This trilogy has been amazing! Jeremy Robinson has been my favorite author for nearly two decades, and he ALWAYS delivers! This trilogy is different, special. There is just something special about dogs that makes them so damn lovable, and these books capture the essence of the bond between people and dogs. Robinson simply nailed it.

Like with most Robinson books, I found myself alternately captivated by the story, laughing aloud (hysterically), and occasionally grossed out (though the creative imagery is always welcome). Furthermore, he frequently adds surprises that nobody, literally nobody, could see coming. Without adding a spoiler, let’s just say the villain is not quite who we thought.

Yes, Chirk and Sean steal the show again, with Grover a close second. All three bring nothing but smiles when they are on the page or, more accurately here, in the ears. While Grover gains even more intelligence and speaking ability, his innocence remains unaffected and he is just so adorable.

Tom Taylorson absolutely killed it in this series. Lots of narrators could have done a good job with this series, but few could have owned the characters as he did. He was an excellent choice, as his range was on full display. With some many characters, tones, and accents, he depicted each uniquely and masterfully.

Not Soylent Green

I bought this book expecting it was the story of the movie Soylent Green, which I have yet to see. The book is almost always better and I wanted all the backstory details. Unfortunately, this is really about overpopulation and serves as a warning for us all. Soylent patties are mentioned maybe three times, and never referred to as Soylent Green. For that reason I am highly disappointed in this listen. However…

When expectations are removed, the story itself is reasonably powerful. It speaks heavily about conservation and overpopulation in ways that are both in your face and easily comprehensible. The dire warnings have been discussed for decades, and thankfully SOME of them have been taken seriously and inspired a modicum of change in our society. Certainly more can be done to avoid the fate mentioned in this story, but impactful measures have been implemented worldwide.

Fun Small Town Story

The premise of this story involves an ancient sisterhood of vigilante assassins who exact justice on those too slippery to spend time in jail. Their preferred method involves poisons that remain undetectable even today. Unfortunately, one sister’s recipe book has been found by someone who is not one of their members and has started taking out grievances on locals. Now, Grace and her “sisters” have to seek out this unsanctioned killer before any more undeserving people are murdered.

The story is cute, as it takes place in a small town and explores the lifestyle of a community where most people know one another. Grace tells the story, including anecdotes and little details about other people that help bring the characters to life. At times it can be a bit distracting from the plot, but overall the story makes for a fun read or listen.

This is my first time hearing from Heather Beth Eisenberg. She has a pleasant voice that is easy to listen too. She performs male characters well, and she injects just the right amount of sarcasm and perkiness when called for. She is a narrator to watch for.

Inspiring for Christians

I have been a huge fan of Jeff Hayes for several years, so when he posted this new release I grabbed it immediately. As expected, he was great! In this story he delivers a wider range of emotions that usual, particularly with sadness and crying. Gary Furlong had a longer part than usual and was also terrific. I have had mixed experiences with Justin Thomas James’ work, but he too was terrific. Annie Ellicot is always great too, but this time she had a bit part.

I liked the story but did t love it. The poly is solid, the characters varied. There are moral dilemmas aplenty, and the protagonist goes through the emotional ringer multiple times. The problem for me is that he became annoying about halfway through.

There is a tremendous emphasis on religion, particularly on Catholicism. That should be expected based on the description, but it is even more of a component than I anticipated. Not being the most pious Catholic I liked it but eventually found it to be a bit much. Admittedly, that is on me, but if there are others who are not Christians or who also are not terribly devout practicing folks then be aware that the emphasis of religion is significant in this story. For those who are devout, you may truly live this story.

When several artists from various fields, all strangers, arrive to a remote island for a unique opportunity to earn an art residency and $500,000, questions proliferate. Why were each of THEM chosen? How can they compete for the residency when they each specialize in vastly different mediums? Who is their mysterious benefactor?

The competition begins before any one of them realizes it, and each is pitted against the others in stakes higher than their promised rewards. One by one each is eliminated, though unexpectedly a ninth player joins the game.

The narration of this story is excellent. Sometimes female narrators struggle with male voices. In this story there are several male characters and even various POV reads. Freya Victoria performed brilliantly throughout the story.

Allow me to clarify the title. In its own this story is pretty good. As the second book of a series, however, the shift in character perspective was disappointing. I was hoping to hear more about John’s story from book 1. I bought it right after finishing that one and didn’t check the description.

Again, in its own the book is good. The narration is very good too.

It seemed as though this story was going to be like “The Trouble with Tribbles” from Star Trek, but instead it was so much more. The fuzzies are almost nothing like tribbles, aside from being small and fluffy. They are more active, have limbs, and so much more engaging.

The fuzzies play as the backdrop to a story about industrialization and ecological mistreatment by big business. It is an allegory for coal and oil strip mining and fracking, and the legal maneuvering performed in the courts. It is done quite well, with humor, wonder, intelligence, and ranging emotions, all bundled together with an antihero.

Why some people harbor such disdain for Will Wheaton is a mystery to me. Sure, his character voices lack distinctions, but he delivers stories well and has a pleasant voice.

I gave it over an hour but found Ng mj d wandering frequently. There wasn’t anything I found engaging. The opening had hope, but the following scene, which could have been full of mystique, was flat.

The game mechanics were uninteresting. It starts out labeling everything as Average, then +1 above average. That doesn’t do it for me. Then the character earns over a trillion experience points in a fluke…only to lose everything above the threshold for level 1. That is utter CRAP. If characters can’t level jump then why would they ever battle strong foes? I gave it two chapters after that, and though there were a few funny spots I just never got into it.

I gave average marks because there isn’t anything technically wrong with it, it just isn’t for me.

Let's face it, Jeremy Robinson is one of the best sci-fi writers of his generation. He typically eschews traditional series in favor of an incredibly diverse collection of stand-alone novels, though sometimes later links them in crossover books. Good Boys is one of his rare endeavors into an intentional trilogy, and IT IS AWESOME!

Take an alien story, cross it with some of the most beloved dog breeds, and set them on a noble quest. That is what Good Boys does. Making their first contact with humans, it is no surprise that the kylonari, the canine aliens, quicky befriend the people they meet. "Man's best friend" proves to be an intergalactic concept. Dog lovers will revel in this story filled with action, creativity, and love.

I had never heard of Tom Taylorson before this book. It turns out that he is an outstanding character actor! The diversity of voices, the pace changes, the inflections, everything about his performance was stellar (pun intended)!

Listen, read, or do both, but however you consume literature, make sure you get this book!
