Movie was better (only time ever said)
Revisado: 04-18-24
This is obviously not the original story and it’s not bad. Many of the concepts and businesses are updated for the story. The general story was good. The performance wasn’t great but wasn’t bad. It was read like one of those help you sleep apps and was very dry. The soft, one note approach just didn’t work most of the time and made this a bit of a chore to complete… especially when so much of the story was obvious. An average book and reading for an average amt of time. Ok if it’s free.

Historia
Conquering dungeons and using them to grow has long been the most efficient way to become a powerful adventurer. The only thing keeping the process from being easy is the Beasts that inhabit these places. Questions plague those entering this particular place of power: Where do the ‘rewards’ of weapons, armor, and heavy gold coins come from? Why is a fluffy bunny charging at me? For abyss-sake, why are there so many monsters? Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Core, a soul forced against his will into a magical stone.

Overdone production, get the full book instead
Revisado: 04-14-24
Through too much of the earlier chapters there was a tendency to have an ambient music scoring that NEVER felt right for the scene or discussion. This also made various parts had to hear. This was exasperated by some of the production that manipulated the actor’s voices to sound distant and hollow, like you were listening through a can. Some of the technique was okay at times, but one they added ambient sounds and music scoring, it was darn near impossible to follow. However the narrator was super loud. The voice actors were decent but the narrator was no where near that of the voiceover from the full book. That shortened aspect also took away from some of the book and story as a whole and was noticeable if you go through the full book. I would highly recommend the regular full book instead of this shortened, over produced, acted version.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Excellent production but a bit extra erotic
Revisado: 04-10-24
This was a pretty solid take on the original book by George Orwell with some modern takes on the story line. Interesting to have a younger lead male who felt more likened to his 20s, that didn’t work for me tho. For anyone taken aback or put off by the minimal erotic scenes in the movie will likely find themselves thinking being immersed in a sordid romantic novel in too large a part, though it certainly made sense and was surprisingly well done. Definitely uncomfortable.
With that said, the production as a whole was outstanding and most of the voiceover work was as well.
Still not as good as the full read but it is interesting to see where this interpretation decided to accentuate certain aspects and overlook or modify others.
I still like the original book best and he movie second, but as far as audio adaptations goes, pretty well done.

Artorian shrugged off moonfall and war like it was a gentle rain and must now face new trials. Specifically: life in the world created by the Dungeon Core, Cal. Unfortunately, Cal has only put together the most bare-bones of systems. He's no stranger to solving near impossible problems; how difficult could it be to smooth out the slew of angry Mages with bitter rivalries, uncountable hidden secrets, a complete inability to cultivate, and a Dungeon creating messes at full speed? One way or another, it is up to Artorian to pick up the pieces.

D&D meets Dragon Ball Z and more
Revisado: 03-30-24
It is interesting to see how many different directions this story evolves into and how it seems to adapt so many different concepts together. What was once a world is becoming a game is becoming a world within a world with a game inside that world, all with its own new trials and changes. This while seeing life and mythology and the reflection of humanity displayed in carrying arrays. One might, at a time, find person self reflection difficult to avoid.

Coincides with books 4&5 of the Dungeon Born Series
Revisado: 03-28-24
I was glad that I had completed the Dungeon Born 5book series by the time I made it to this book. And there were so many other references to the prior books as well, as it relates to the appearance of the dungeon Cal in this book, that I’d recommend finishing that series before beginning this particular book.
While not following the other series won’t prevent you from enjoying this wonderful continuation of the Atorian saga, it will lead to some possible points of confusion and swaths of missing details… as well as the joys of another wonderfully written and performed series.

The world watches the sky with trepidation. The insanity of Xenocide knew no bounds, and all will soon suffer the effects he had planned for a millennium. Though none know what is to come, they all know it isn't going to be easy to survive. The Master has a plan, one that can give the world at large a way to escape the onrushing desolation. It may be on the bleeding edge of morality and what he needs might prove too difficult to secure, but the Master asks for trust. Cal and Dale both have their role to play as the world hurtles toward destruction.

Change of narrator not as good
Revisado: 03-24-24
Disappointed that the book to close the series had a different voice actor than the previous books. Was definitely not as good and every character but Cal was just, not right. Series still feels incomplete. But definitely worth moving to the Atorian Archives series that corresponds with this series.
Overall, still a good book.

Excellent collection with top voice acting
Revisado: 03-21-24
Truly magnificent to have so many classic Sherlock Holmes books residing in a single compendium so perfectly arranged. That alone is well worth acquiring this series.
The addition of having Stephen Fry to voice act these wonderful books is even more of the strawberries on top of the icing on top of the epically divine cake. Never had I realized his vocal flexibility and astuteness.
A definite recommendation to anyone’s collection.

Revisado: 02-16-24
Slow and confusing at the beginning, perhaps due to not knowing the books prior, but it totally felt like jumping into the middle of something. Starts a bit slow but ends with writer’s dramatics pressing you to have to devour the next novel with extreme haste.
Prepare to have your vocabulary tested, especially in the early chapters.
Well written book from an exceptional writer. A classic of a long classic dragon series. It does seem as though certain Marvel characters owe themselves conceptually to Anne McCaffrey.
