Historia
A Chance to Die is a vibrant portrayal of Amy Carmichael, an Irish missionary and writer who spent 53 years in South India without furlough. There she became known as "Amma", or "mother", as she founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, a refuge for underprivileged children. Amy's life of obedience and courage stands as a model for all who claim the name of Christ. Bringing Amma to life in a compelling biographical narrative, Elisabeth Elliot urges listeners to examine the depths of their own commitment to Christ.

Awful narration!
Revisado: 11-02-22
I read this book in the 90s and it is fantastic. My eyes are more troublesome now which is why I bought the audiobook. I only listened for a very short while before returning it. This book needs an excellent narrator. I hope some day it’ll be redone.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Absolutely horrid recording
Revisado: 07-23-18
I wanted to enjoy this book and gave it several tries. The narrator voice was pleasant but having listened to more than 100 audible books, I simply could not stand the recording apparatus/mic that was used in this case. Very painful to hear. PLEASE redo this book!!!

Thousands of readers have come home to Mitford, the little town with the big heart, whose endearing and eccentric residents have become like family members. But now change is coming to the hamlet. Father Tim, the Episcopal rector, and his wife Cynthia are pondering retirement; a brash new mayoral candidate is calling for aggressive development; a suspicious realtor with plans for a health spa is eyeing the beloved house on the hill; and, worst of all, the Sweet Stuff Bakery may be closing.

Abridged HORRIBLE
Revisado: 07-03-16
Why doesn't audible have the full story read by John McDonough? I forced myself through this and almost quit often. If my eyes didn't bother me I would've skipped it and read the actual book. The music was irritating and the reader just didn't do the characters well. Ruined story in the middle of this series. Please bring back the whole book, read by John McDonough.

At last, Mitford's rector and lifelong bachelor Father Tim has married his talented and vivacious neighbor Cynthia. Now, of course, they must face love's challenges: new sleeping arrangements for Father Tim's sofa-sized dog, Cynthia's urge to decorate the rectory Italian-villa-style, and the growing pains of the thrown-away boy who's become like a son to the rector.

LOVE the narrator!!!
Revisado: 06-18-16
This series delights me continually. It's like I know the characters. What a gifted writer Jan Karon is. I will move into the next one, but am so very disappointed John McDonough isn't narrating and that it's an abridged recording. If the narrator is available, I think having him narrate every story about Father Tim would delight listeners.

INCREDIBLE STORY!!
Revisado: 10-31-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have listened over and over to this book. I love it because of the story and how it's written, but most of all, the chapters are read by the actresses who played the part in the movie. It is a phenomenal book!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Abilene. So sweet and genuine with a lot of suffering in her past. She loved all the children she raised and told anti-black stories to them with a lot of creativity, trying to change them for the future to accept everyone, regardless of skin color.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The actresses who played the character in the story read their parts.

Thought it was the book.
Revisado: 09-10-12
What disappointed you about Thalia Book Club: Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird 50th Anniversary Celebration?
I thought it was a reading of the book. Wish you carried the actual TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD audible book being read.
What was most disappointing about Symphony Space’s story?
Just a discussion of the book.
What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?
A discussion of the book and not actual reading of the story.
What character would you cut from Thalia Book Club: Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird 50th Anniversary Celebration?
I just want one person to read the story as Harper Lee wrote it.

What made the experience of listening to Hinds' Feet on High Places the most enjoyable?
Listening to it read by a British woman made this book fantastic to listen to. I've probably listened between 15-20 times; there is so much Truth to glean from this book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Much Afraid, because I identify with her so much in almost every way - being fearful, wanting to be loved, and wanting to really know the Shepherd of my soul.
What does Nadia May bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her British voice is fantastic. I have to travel a lot to see my mother, so listening to this book all the time while in the car has made it so much better.

Awful audio
Revisado: 12-29-11
Would you try another book from Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend and/or Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend ?
Probably a decent book, but someone else needs to read it or the volume needs to be adjusted. I can hardly hear it from my iPod or my buds. It is awful in that respect.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Be able to actually hear the book being read.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Could not even hear him. This book needs to be redone.
