it's a great adventure but it kinda sends me once in a while when you hear certain sentences that only adults use.

first the male speaker should not be doing female voices it come of as an old woman every time. but then at no point in this story was I ever immersed. the sheer amount if fighting where some how not one staff member can add 1+1 and make 2. and nobody does interviews to find out what happened? they don't see the same 2 girls fighting and no consequences. someone gets so beat up they can't move for days but vandalism is what causes someone to be expelled? someone gets poisoned where staff and medical teams are involved with a clear culprit and no consequences? a killer and nobody suggests going to the nonmagical police? this feels more like someone who was homeschooled made a story about what they thought school was like rather than a real life example. and the magic system... not well thought out.

the voice actress was great. love the vibes she was creating. however this was not great writing. for a teen that's supposed to be a genius is ridiculously underwhelming in her actual knowledge. it feels way too much like young Sheldon but only simple understanding of scientific terms. she very nearly blew up her universe because she thought playing around with magic and ideas like black holes. the characters were all flat. the teacher threw beans and said "hmm I never thought of that" alot. she was supposed to be a great warrior, but settle to be a teacher, then retired to help run a city, but might train to one day be immortal... how barbie of her. the shop owner just goes with everything literally. a random paladin that shows us what it's like to be a paladin. ecetra. she spends more time stopping and dissociating than actually interacting with the world. there is one moment where she thinks about her past and another where she spends 5 seconds crying about being an orphan. but doesn't spend any time telling us what her life looked like beyond a vague she has parents, and the one math class she took in 4th grade. it sent me out of the story a lot by how confusingly obtuse it was

I struggled a bit with this one. the idea was there the execution was a little lack luster. the female narrator did not do impressions of men at all so it was very confusing when the chapter switch and suddenly there was a male narrator after the female narrator had already done the voices. and she did say the young charaters name wrong it sounds like it started with an r,g, or b at diffrent times. that made it more confusing. And the twists the whole time were just "ooh I left out information" it wasn't an actual twist or a forgotten memory. and the ending was forced. there was no reason to do all that to the woman.

I had followed the author on YouTube for years. while he is funny on YouTube his intelligence made me believe that this was going to be overly smart and overly confusing. instead it was brilliantly written for any casual reader. I cried at my work desk listening to this. I also laughed a little to hard at the real parts. I absolutely relate to April May's humor in the worst moment of her life. I've experince some pretty bad stuff and still found myself making jokes just like that. this book is definitely worth the read/listen. I dont know why I waited so long. The voices were soothing. and I never was frustrated at any of the bad choices.

I loved it. it was a hard listen to though. You slowly listen to the main character lie to herself and lose the point of what she's doing. She falls hard and fast for every ounce of magic. And the first half she gets a lot of the info she needs but takes a while to put it together. Blinded by her jealousy and regrets she misses everything in front of her. and her lying should not have worked as much as it did.

it wasn't at all hard to listen to. I liked the idea of how the powers worked. and I liked the ending. I don't feel like Im missing out in anyway. it was reasonable how her memories and everyone's powers worked. I also liked not being in america first every story. having an accent and locations that are not my own but are real definitely added to the enjoyment.

So how old is Peter is he her age or is he an adult? c
Cause I'm getting a weird vibe from the whole thing. Also a main character that has a crap ton of power that no one else has? So she gets hurt but will never fail in a battle, never know exactly what its like to be powerless. And a grandma who got addicted to magic with no explanation of what that looks like? and nobody was actually mad at the grandma everyone was just surprised she didn't fight the conviction, loses everything, and the family is outcasted... for what? This book had a great idea but not so great execution. I can't suspend my disbelief.
