Great new novel
Revisado: 05-16-23
I heard about this book through an interview with the author on NPR. It sounded good and came right as I was looking for a new book. It was a great listen - with different voices for the characters, the words that pulled you in, the way you cared how things would turn out. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

When Quinn Langston’s her best friend unexpectedly passes away, Quinn knows she'll do anything to protect Brooke’s three-year-old daughter, Lily, and her grandmother Margaret. Not only is Quinn the little girl’s godmother, but they are the family she always wished she had. Now she vows to do whatever it takes to help the three of them heal - even if it means letting a complete stranger into their lives - and into their hearts. Margaret is old-fashioned, and she has no compunction about finding a way to reach Lily’s dad, a sperm donor.

Revisado: 10-14-22
This book pulls you in from the start. I couldn’t stop listening to it. I loved the different voices for the different chapters / perspectives - the one for the grandma sounded like my grandma! I’d listen to it again and do recommend

Historia
The New York Times best-selling true story of an all-American girl and a boy from Zimbabwe and the letter that changed both of their lives forever. It started as an assignment. Everyone in Caitlin's class wrote to an unknown student somewhere in a distant place. Martin was lucky to even receive a pen-pal letter. There were only 10 letters, and 50 kids in his class. But he was the top student, so he got the first one. That letter was the beginning of a correspondence that spanned six years and changed two lives.

Good cross cultural and sweet listen
Revisado: 04-19-22
As someone who has worked with international students in the 2010 decade, it was refreshing and informational to hear how a pen pal program in the 1990s developed into a fuller family, that overcame a lot of challenges with technology only being one of them.

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

Romcom in a book
Revisado: 01-27-22
This was what I wanted when I started it - a rom com - and had an original story. I really liked that two people read the book from different perspectives. Cheesy at a few points but you expect that.

Light and also deep listen
Revisado: 09-18-21
The audio for the book skipped a lot but i powered through it to keep listening. It was funny, thoughtful, scary, and more - it was also one I could listen to with toddlers around and not have to worry about bad words. Jeannie - may your days continue to be healthy!

With no way out and her identity burned so often that she had no proof she even existed, all that was left was a girl from nowhere.

Historia
To the young Cheryl Diamond, life felt like one big adventure, whether she was hurtling down the Himalayas in a rickety car or mingling with underworld fixers. Her family appeared to be an unbreakable gang of five. One day they were in Australia, the next South Africa, the pattern repeating as they crossed continents, changed identities, and erased their pasts. What Diamond didn’t yet know was that she was born into a family of outlaws fleeing from the highest international law enforcement agencies, a family with secrets that would eventually catch up to all of them.

A different and better story than I thought it would be
Revisado: 06-29-21
I got this book knowing it’d be about a woman and cooking. What I didn’t know I was getting was a whole family story of travel, frayed relationships, constant unknowns, tender moments, adventure, and then a story about cooking recipes for every country of the world. So much fit into the book I thought I was listening to a different one at times - but in a good way. I already recommended this to a relative who enjoys memoirs and food books.
