Absolutely Fabulous
Revisado: 07-14-21
It has been a long time that I sat on the edge of my seat listening to a story, so eager to find out what would happen next. The way Trent Dalton weaves the characters together-this story is nothing short of genius, full of humor, intrigue, and love. The narrator is excellent, able to embody different voices. An Australian tale such as this should be read by an Australian as it makes the story that much richer.
One of my more favorite Audible experiences.
Well done.

Historia
In a country teetering on the brink of civil war, two young people meet - sensual, fiercely independent Nadia and gentle, restrained Saeed. They embark on a furtive love affair, and are soon cloistered in a premature intimacy by the unrest roiling their city. When it explodes, turning familiar streets into a patchwork of checkpoints and bomb blasts, they begin to hear whispers about doors - doors that can whisk people far away, if perilously and for a price. As the violence escalates, Nadia and Saeed decide that they no longer have a choice.

Sad when it ended.
Revisado: 06-29-17
This is a book that when it ended, I felt sad. I wanted more. I wanted to hear more of their stories. Very well read. I think that was part of it too, listening to his voice, his story.
We all have doors we have been through and so many that we are afraid to open, so many we must dare to open. Thank you for this story.

Historia
Noah wants to go home. A seemingly easy request from most four-year-olds. But as Noah's single mother, Janie, knows, nothing with Noah is ever easy. One day the preschool office calls and says Janie needs to come in to talk about Noah, and no, not later, now - and life as she knows it stops. For Jerome Anderson, life as he knows it has stopped. A deadly diagnosis has made him realize he is approaching the end of his life.

Same voices for characters
Revisado: 04-12-17
The story left me anguished-but that is good-your writing affected me. I connected.
I wish the audio version would have used the same voices for the characters all the way through, so the person who was Janey always did the voice for Janey, for Anderson and so on. I think the affect would have been even greater. Made me think-there is so much more out there than we realize. Thank you.
