Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

I wish everyone would read this book
Revisado: 01-24-24
Cheney articulates precisely the crisis in contemporary politics by illuminating Jan 6 from the inside, as she experienced it. We also get to see how the minds of those around her worked in response.
This perspective helps readers understand Trump as a phenomenon, what drives decision making in Washington, and the fragility of democracy.

Historia
Sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes deeply joyous, The House on Mango Street tells the story of Esperanza Cordero, whose neighborhood is one of harsh realities and harsh beauty. Esperanza doesn't want to belong, not to her rundown neighborhood, and not to the low expectations the world has for her. Esperanza's story is that of a young girl coming into her power, and inventing for herself what she will become.

Wonderful

The author’s narration makes all the descriptions come alive. The stories are more like poems. There is honesty and subtlety.

Historia
The Middle Ages harshly tested every aspect of human perseverance, imagination, and survival. Living conditions were squalid for almost everyone except the ruling elite, and most of the riches of Western culture were preserved in monasteries and on other continents. And into this setting came widespread famines, prolonged wars, and plagues that marked Europe's late medieval period as one of the most harrowing in recorded history.

Outstanding scholarly context
Revisado: 05-18-23
This course felt more advanced than other GC courses. It was introductory, but more sweeping in its contextualization. It connected the MANY points it made to implications for other foundational influences in cultural history. Truly outstanding and comprehensive.

Wide-ranging insights
Revisado: 04-20-23
The coverage was vast and the presentations entertaining. The lectures pointed out interesting connections among a range of people and events. I have a deeper understanding of a time period I used to consider boring, but now find intriguing. Great course.
