A Woman History needs to remember
Revisado: 02-15-25
What a surprise it was for me to learn the details of what Francis Perkins accomplished. I have to admit that I had no idea of her role as labor secretary, and in the creation of the Social Security program. This is an excellent story that starts a little slowly in her early years, but onceshe becomes Labor Secretary, it’s captivating and holds your attention.
Her work to save Jews before the holocaust started is another aspect of her life that I had no idea that she did. Her relationship with Roosevelt was also extremely interesting
Everyone should read this book for an eye-opener into how the Social Security program was created and the role that this woman played in it

Historia
In the ancient city of Nineveh, on the bank of the River Tigris, King Ashurbanipal of Mesopotamia, erudite but ruthless, built a great library that would crumble with the end of his reign. From its ruins, however, emerged a poem, the Epic of Gilgamesh, that would infuse the existence of two rivers and bind together three lives. In 1840 London, Arthur is born beside the stinking, sewage-filled River Thames. With an abusive, alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother, Arthur’s only chance of escaping destitution is his brilliant memory.

Incredibly descriptive lyrical, writing telling a captivating tragic story going back to the early days of Mesopotamia and coming up to the modern times. So much information was new and intriguing and encouraged me to investigate and learn more about the poems of Gilgamesh and the.Yazidis people -
It’s a powerful story that I believe needs to be told

Revisado: 01-20-25
What an incredible journey from the depths of despair as a convicted felon to an internationally recognized writer. All aspects of the authors life are relevant to each of us in our own lives as we face adversity and I highly recommend this book for everyone.
This is one of the rare circumstances with the author reading her own work actually turned out to be an outstanding choice. She is an excellent narrator and please google the many reviews and stories about her especially her appearance with Oprah. It’s all 100% true and I was so pleased to have come across this book.

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Good premise but tedious characters
Revisado: 12-15-24
On the positive side, there’s some really good insightful storylines about interpersonal relationships and what makes us really happy. At the very end it did sum up well however, getting to that point was extremely difficult.
The author had so many, completely inane and immature characters that it became almost impossible to listen to sometimes. It just went on and on with nonsensical mid 20 year-old conversations with the usual let’s get drunk scene and let’s take some marijuana scene that is so formulaic . It’s almost in every romcom right now.
More seriously in regard to the writing style was the excessive use of the F bomb word not to indicate surprise or anger, but actually to indicate sex and instead of using the word sleep with or the actual word sex everyone seem to use the F bomb. I can’t believe that well educated professorial individuals Speak this way certainly not in the circles that I’m used to, it became almost laughable how often people were using the word and it takes away from the story and there was no need to use that so often. The Shock Value wore off immediately and it got really tiresome to keep hearing people use it.
I do recommend the book overall, but you may have to fast-forward through many of the early conversations among the bridesmaids because it does nothing for the story and just takes up a lot of time and it’s almost too silly to even include in a book. It was not humorous. it was actually frustrating to hear all that babble

Historia
In November 2021, an obscure email from the California Department of Education landed in New York Times reporter, Thomas Fuller’s, inbox. The football team at the California School for the Deaf in Riverside, a state-run school with only 168 high school students, was having an undefeated season. After years of covering war, wildfires, pandemic, and mass shootings, Fuller was captivated by the story of this group of high school boys. It was uplifting. During the pandemic’s gloom, it was a happy story. It was a sports story but not an ordinary one.

Not just a Sports story
Revisado: 11-30-24
Don’t think this is just a book about football!
It’s so much more than that!
It provides detailed insight into the world of the deaf athlete and how deaf people have been treated over the centuries. I had no idea any of this happened and it definitely will make you think About the disability We call deafness and how we have or have not done our best to help these people integrate themselves into the world.
And of course, the sports story could not have been made up because it actually happened. Definitely a great read.

Don’t let the possible supernatural aspect of the story, deter you from choosing this book. It’s not what you think and it’s extremely well crafted inspiring novel. I truly enjoyed reading the back stories of all the characters and all the stories eventually weave together into a very satisfying finish.the narrators were excellent with each of the voices of the characters and you immediately get pulled into their storylines
The hours just flew by and you definitely will want to think about the story afterward and how it may reflect on your own life

A truly inspiring and heartfelt story. It’s a story of reflecting on one’s life and the meaning of relationships and regrets we may have of things we should’ve done in our lives. Really well done narration and highly recommend this to everybody of all ages.
The main character is young, only 30 years old, coming to grips with imminent mortality and looking back on past love, family, and the importance of pets in their life. It’s a great title but it is only a portion of the really important themes that are discussed in this book .

A Fable Love Story of a First Love
Revisado: 08-27-24
A little bit of magical realism and a love story fable that definitely kept my attention. Interesting characters and a story although somewhat predictable nevertheless like a hallmark movie, I wanted to find out how everything would end.
Excellent narration and everything wraps up in a heartwarming finale that you knew was coming, but nevertheless made the book worthwhile
Someone always has to get hurt in love triangles like this, and I don’t think enough emphasis was placed on Julia‘s mother and the wasted years of her life marrying a man whose heart was elsewhere. It wasn’t a happy ending for her and the book could’ve used a little more balance in that regard-well we have sympathy for the main character. We can’t forget the collateral damage that occurred from a love story like this.
Overall definitely recommend as a thoughtful interesting book.
